You input please: LP with a Humbucker and a P-90

I'd like to try putting 1X P90 in my 1990 LP classic and Leave a Humbucker. Would the volume still be balanced? Would you put the P90 in the Bridge or Neck position? I like the classic rock, zztop sound... but like cleaner sounds to with my original band.

chubs, for my pesos, I would always put the P-90 in the neck and the HB in the bridge position.
What humbucker are you planning on using? That makes aa huge difference. You need a humbucker to match the P-90, I would say output relatively of course and similar magnet and wire construction. For my money, this is just my opinion, I would consult with Bare Knuckles and mention to them what you want and they could wind your pickups to complement each other. 500K pots for sure, that would be a killer LP.
BK probably have 'off the shelf' pickups that would be less expensive than custom wound, although all their pickups are pretty much custom wound from my perspective.
In fact Steve Stevens Rebel Yell pickups give a more modern mid range powerful sound, particularly well suited to classic rock tones, more than you might think!
Les Pauls equipped with these pickups are transformed in monsters!!
Good luck with a cool idea. You know that there are P-90's in a humbucker sized pickup as well!

1-Seth

3-Seth & parallel 'bucker (a more interesting pup with 2 different coils)
4-parallel 'bucker
5-P-90
There are 4 sounds available in the P-Rail :
1-vintage output rail single coil,5.5k
2-real alnico V P-90,10.2k
3-parallel 'bucker,9k
4-series 'bucker,18k
The 'bucker sounds are more interesting because the 2 coils are not the same.

You might want to check out a local winder (QC, Canada)
Lauzon Pickups. He's doing a humbucker sized P90. I don't know much about his products but session players like Donald Meunier and Pierre Côté are using his pickups.

P90 in the neck - definitely. That would make for a sweet sounding neck position. mmmmm.
If you're worried about output level matching, you should try out a Gibson BFG and remember that you can play around with higher/lower output humbuckers in the bridge position. Tweaking the pickup height can also help.

Another thing.... Your Les Paul Classic, if all original, has high output Ceramic humbuckers. What I would start with is to put a Throbak DT, Gibson T-Top or Manlius Fat Diane in the bridge position.
For the neck, you might laugh, but the Dimarzio PAF/PAF Pro sound great in the neck. I'd love to try the newer 36th aniv. Regardless, a P90 in the neck will be completely different than a humbucker. Different vibe. Cool sound tho.
