Anyone here use Warmoth necks? I want to get a neck routed for a floyd. I was wondering about the quality and how much prep work they need? Do they need a lot fret work? For those of you that aren't using a warmoth what kind? I'm looking for a stable neck that I can get with a fat back .850 or so at the first fret to .900 at the 12th fret. I think my necks a little thick. Thanks for the help.

I've used Warmoth necks, and honestly, Im not crazy about them. They dont do any prep to the frets tops or edges, so they pretty much need a leveling and end dressing right out of the box. Plus, in my opinion they use too massive a truss rod. I feel that it affects the tone negatively.
The strictly vintage spec necks have a regular truss rod, but there are very few options on that neck... like only a 7.5" radius, and 1 5/8" nut width.
IMO, Carvin necks are way better. They come completely set up as far as fret leveling, and fret end dressing, and the nut is already installed and cut. They also have an angled headstock, so string tree's are not necessary, and you can even get them with/without fretboard markers, reverse headstock, or a blank (paddle) headstock. I've used Carvin bolt on necks, and also their neck-thru body necks with excellent results.
They also have more options than they used to, like fingerboard material (rosewood, ebony, maple) and fret size, and because they basically "plek" the frets before you get the neck, they play like a mutha right out of the box, and are very consistent from neck to neck. A quick finishing job, and they're ready to go.
For my money, as long as it doesnt have to have a certain look (i.e.-vintage) I would go with a Carvin over a Warmoth anyday.
Plus, they're cheap!!!! An added bonus these days!!

I have a carvin bolt but the neck just feels a little thin to me. But, from what I understand they have increased the thickness of the neck. My bolt is from 98,99. The warmoth is getting a little out of my price range with all the set up work it needs. The carvin is looking better at least price wise. Fillmore NYC could you tell me what the thickness of your carvin neck are. If they are thicker than my current bolt. I might have to get one.

Sure. The only thing is that the bolt-on neck Im measuring had a finish at one time, which I removed, so there is probably a few thousands added to these measurements, but Im sure its nothing the hand could discern.

Measured in thousands, the bolt-on neck thickness specs out as follows:

At the nut: .800 thousands.
Between the 5th & 6th frets: .835
Between the 8th & 9th frets: .855
Between the 11th & 12th frets: .872
Between the 14th & 15th frets: .960
After that point, its just the neck heel, which is exactly 1" thick.

The neck-thru neck specs almost exactly the same:

At the nut: .832 thousands.
Between the 5th & 6th frets: .850
Between the 8th & 9th frets: .875
Between the 11th & 12th frets: .890
Between the 14th & 15th frets: .970

Both of those necks are probably the same age as yours... from the late '90's. Hope that helps!!

I've never had an issue with Warmoth necks. I've bought two, both were great.

I checked the thickness of my Carvin neck and it is close to yours fillmore nyc. Thanks a lot for checking. I did some more research and that is what the current bolt on necks are. So, I'm not sure what neck I will get. The Warmoth standard thin is very close to the Carvin also. I saw on this board some where about another company that makes bodies and necks. I'm going to have to find that post again. I remember seeing that the price was reasonable and they had a few cool options.
