Hi guys,

I'm searching for a set of tuners for a guitar I'm building, and I was hoping you may be able to offer some insight. I saw these Gotoh 510s and they look pretty cool.

I've tried Grovers, Schallers, locking Schallers, and other Gotoh tuners with good results in the past. I'm just looking for something a bit different for this guitar. I might also consider the Planet Waves as well. What do you all think?

Those look nice. I've been using the Wilkinson EZ lock on everything I have. The post has 2 holes drilled at 90 degrees and you put the string through one, then 3/4 wrap and then run it through the other hole. Also the other advantage is you can choose which hole to start the wrap so you can start on the bottom holes for the G,B and high E and you won't need string trees any more since there's enough pitch to the string. They sell on eBay all day long for $22 a set. Give them a try.

i have the gotoh 510 but with the blocking mechanism on my lag roxanne .....absolute killer tuners , with new strings once your strings have stabilised their tension you don't have to bother , gotohs keep your guitar in tune for months ( no kidding when weather is quite stable i don't have to tune up my guitar in a month or two sometimes ).... no wobble at ALL and the extra feature is the super smooth action .....you can buy them EYES CLOSED they are the best i ever tried ( and i had kluson , grovers ..etc )....you can also customise buttons which is a cool option too

I am a big fan of Sperzel tuners and they are made in Ohio. Don't let the turn ratio fool you the smaller shaft on the Sperzels give the same pull inch per turn as the higher ratio tuners.

I just got back from Guitar Center. They had some chrome Sperzels in stock, which I'd never seen before. I'd only seen those satin finished ones before. Anyway, they matched the price on the Stew Mac website, so I got a set of chrome Trim Locks for $55. Thanks, gents.

I was gonna suggest Sperzels. IMO, the best tuner on the market. Absolutely zero backlash or slop, and I think they're made of aluminum, cause they're really lightweight. I like as little weight on the headstock as possible... not withstanding my undying love for Gibson Firebirds, which have the heaviest tuners on Gods planet applied to the most fragile headstock ever made.
Its the coolest looking, dumbest set up in the world... but I still love 'em.

+1111 on the sperzels, I have them on all my player strats; easy and quick string changes, sound good, stays in tune much better, and no stupid string trees or locking nuts.
