My new R9 VOS Paul Pictures added 4-8-09

Post by bluze81 » Sat Mar 28, 2009 6:30 pm

I just purchased a 2007 Lemonburst R9 VOS Les paul, still new all hang tags, brown case, has nice tight flame top, not the huge flame you see on alot of these, It will be delivered this week,I will post some pictures then, I used to own an orig, 58 Standard in the early 1980s and sold it, so this is my replacement or as close as I could get...

Wow, how much ? From the mental pictures I'm getting, that axe has that instant 'Rock Star' look.
Maybe a bit like the Greeny/Moore Les Paul in color, only your top will be much more figured ?

How much? a bunch! I will say this My orig, 58 cost me $4500, in 79 or 80, this new one was just a few hundred less, it does kinda look like the Green/Moore Les Paul perhaps more flame but small tight flame, I like the tops when they are not so perfect looking, they look more like most of the orig, bursts, Some of the Reissues look fake with too much Flame but it boils down to what a person likes...

Yeah, I finally found a Paul that I've alway's wanted. It's a black '85 standard. It hasnt got the scratch plate on it, which I dont mind. In my mind it looks like the one Ace has on The Kiss Alive! cover, except this one hasnt been modded for that middle pick up, and the metal cover's are still on the pu's. Kinda looks like Becks a bit too (always thought his was black, found out his was oxblood, still, pics made it look black).

Most importantly though, this particular '85 has 'THAT' tone. That particular great Les Paul type thing. Havent got it paid for yet, but soon I hope to.

I'll try to get some pic's of it the next time I go to make a payment. It just really speaks well for me, and has that very specific upper midrange type tone that few Pauls seem to get. Most Pauls in my experience have pure 'mid' mids and bottom end. Some have an extra sweet 'zing' to them, without losing any beef, like this one.

Nice one! Congrats!
but small tight flame, I like the tops when they are not so perfect looking
Years down the line fading will take care of that. My Heritage Standard 80 has almost lost all of her flames.
In the meantime; enjoy!

Try top-wrapping her...

Dave thanks for the kind words on the Paul and for posting those shots of the Peter Green/Gary Moore Les Paul, that guitar is so killer! I saw it at the Dallas show, the one I bought I just really like the small flame in the top, and it weighs just 8.7 lbs, waiting on a set of Throbak limited pickups, Steve

I don't get a lot of gear envy, cuz my setup is pretty much what I want for the moment.....but f*ck man! That is a sweet Les Paul! I've visited this page like 5 time since that pic went up. Also listened to Peter Green for about 2 hrs straight, on at least two occasions.

You're making me jones like a bastard over that Lemon Drop.

Dave I will get some close up shots tomarow posted, have done some upgrades,Throwback limited pickups on the way, installed a DR vintage pots and military caps, huge improvement! and Pigtail music long studs and tailpeice, have a set of aged single line Kluson tuners on the way, since these parts were installed this guitar sounds and feels much closer to my orig, 58 burst I had in the early 80s, Also I just did a trade for a second Paul Historic G0 1960 Style 2004 plaintop in same color, should be here in a couple days, will do some close up shots of both geeetars and will try and do some soundclips, I been playing my R9 thru a 1965 Deluxe, a match made in tone heaven, but never ever will I not crank these thru my Marshalls! Thanks Travis, I have been so pleased that I bought this guitar, Its been on my want list for years since I had to let go of an orig, 1958 burst, if ya lived closer you could take it and play it, thats what there made for :D Steve
