74 Strat Fretwork

Hey guys, I just made a post about my pickups for this guitar and I also think I need to get some fretwork done.

Does anyone know a quality service shop out in the chicago area who does fretwork at a good price? The frets are pretty worn out on this thing, they are probably original from the looks of it. It looks like maybe someone tried to recrown them a couple times (not doing the greatest job either as I can see scratches that are parallel to all of the frets :(

I used to go to Players Guitar growing up, and they were always cool with me, so I may just go there...however since this is a vintage guitar I want to make sure I'm going to the right place.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Well, seeing that I'm only 26 years old, I would have to say that any guitar that is 10+ years older than me could be considered vintage ;o)

I ended up going over to Players Guitars and they are doing a full fret job and a nut for 200 bucks, which you can't beat. The guys there are awesome, and they even remembered me when I went in there 15 years ago when I was a little kid with my dad, which is cool. I called around to the various shops and they all said go to Players. All of the other shops that did work in the Chicago area wanted to charged 275 minimum for just the fretwork and 65 bucks minimum for the nut. I had to decide whether or not I wanted to keep it original and not play it, or say the hell with it and make it sing again, so I did what I had to do. So hopefully when its done she'll be able to play for another 35 years!

That's a great price as long as they do it right and DON'T delaquer/relaquer the neck (unless you WANT it done).

I paid $400 for new frets in the '64.
