I had a set 11 yrs ago or so. I didnt like them cause they were bulky and you had to unlock them to tune. I hear this isnt the case with the new ones.

I was wondering if I could get a 101 course on the latest offering of locking tuners, like, how do they function, and which ones are the least bulky, and whats the best brand ?

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks

The only lockers I have used are the Sperzel staggered locking tuners on a could strats.
I like them, the could be staggered better but the speed at which you can do a string change is greatly improved.
But, they don't have that vintage vibe if that is important.

The last guitar I built I used the newer Gotoh Kluson type staggered tuners.
I like these a lot.
They have a much better taper to the high E string peg.
They also have the split tuning post like the vintage ones.
Best of all, NO STRING TREE!

I recommend these very much. Gotoh also makes a staggered locker type but I haven't tried those.
