Guys,

borrowed a '54 Gibson Les Paul junior from a friend the other day.
It's a re-issue built around 2000, don't know exactlly though.

Single cut away, tobacco, black pick guard and just 1 black 'dog-ear' P90.
Absolutely awesome sounding guitar, the P90 really blew me away.

Does anyone actually know the specs of that P90 Gibson used in those re-issues?

- How much output?

- What kind of magnet does it use?

- How do they compare to other P90's out there?

I'm pretty sure they're the same as the P90's Gibson sells as replacement parts. Alnico V and output around 9k I think. Gibson's really vague on their site and all the people who sell them aren't any better in providing details, so that's just what I gathered.

I had an SG junior reissue from 2001 with a really good sounding p-90. From what I remember it measured about 7.6k. Phil

I've got a Les Paul Melody Maker from around 2004 that has a single dog-ear P-90. I love that pickup, it just screams RAWWWKKK! I've got an LP Special that is loaded with Lollar P-90s, and the Gibson has less midrange skronk and more sparkle (although it's not overly bright), and cleans up better when you roll back the volume.

I gotta agree with Phil here... my '90's reissue P90 Firebird pickups were around mid 7's resistance on the volt meter. They sounded real nice. On historic guitars, Im pretty sure Gibson doesnt really vary too much in their selection of P90's. Basically reissues of vintage pickups.

The P90's in a Godin LG P90 are WAY stronger. They use Duncan SP90-3's, which read out around 12k for the neck and 14.5k at the bridge... much hotter than stock Gibsons, and they actually sound really good.
