What do you guys think? They look real nice, have a real Floyd, made in the USA and you can get them for under a grand these days. Seems like a steal.

I'm really temped to get one. The special speedloader strings are a big turnoff 'cos you know that one day... they might not be made anymore. Then, there's availability....

Its either that or a cheapo Korean made Parker P30 for almost the same price, or a G&L Tribute series, maybe a MIM Fender?

It depends what you want from the guitar. Do you want a Floyd? If the answer is no then there are plenty of other options as you said. Personally if your after a strat, Id look at Fenders new USA series. I forget what they are called, but theyve just been launched at NAMM and have an RRP of $1099 or there abouts. Thats gonna mean a street price of well under a grand for a USA built strat.

I like Floyds but don't need one. The only thing I'm worried about with the Floyd is string availability. The Speedloader needs double ball end string that don't stretch and are of exact length for your guitar's scale.

I'm even considering the Deluxe Player's strat but its made in Mexico.

I just need something while my real Strat undergoes neck work (refret and remove the neck/body hump it has developped over the years).

The parker P36 and P30 look real tempting but they're made in Korea. Apparently the quality is very high on those.

I'd have to see how much those MM Silhouettes go for.

Check the Ernie Ball forum there is a for sale thread there by members.
The Musicman Vintage Trem stays in tune perfect and will rival any floyd if setup properly.

Ebay is another option and i definetly think you can pick one up used for about a grand.

Too much money for what I'm going to do with this guitar. Its just a backup guitar while I fix my main Strat.

If you just need something to hold you over for a bit get a used MIM strat. Now if it were me I'd get something thats going to give you value even after your main one is fixed. Something with a different neck wood or pickup configuration. Something that you'd still use for a different tonal pallete even afterwords. Otherwise its a waste IMHO.

Definitely agree with you, that's why I want to avoid a MIM Fender. I'm thinking of upping my budget and getting a used Parker Nitefly SA. Should be pretty close to a strat to act as a temp fix but I'll probably want to keep it when the Strat is fixed up. With the piezo, I can get a different palette of sounds and the general feel should be different (SS Frets, Swamp ash body, tremolo etc).

I won't get the Floyd with Speedloader trem. The special design strings aren't available where I live (Canada - Ottawa/Gatineau) and I doubt that stores in Montreal or Toronto have these strings either. The stores that actually know what I'm talking about just recommend buying from the Floyd Rose website. No thanks, I'll pass.

Hey JCM, how $hitty are our choices here in Ottawa for gear and guitars eh? Steve's or Long and McQuade which seems emptier everytime I go in there. Kinda makes us have to chance it by looking for axes on line. I'm in a similar boat right now, looking for a new axe in around the 1k mark.

I really like Lauzon music but to tell you the truth, I haven't bought a name brand guitar since 1997 because I make my own guitars. The only reason why I'm looking for something now is that I don't have the time to build anything right now.

I haven't seen an interesting guitar in a long time at Steve's or L&M, but really, I just go there to get strings, cables and stuff.

I think that the Parker NF should be an interesting guitar.

Try living in Halifax. Long & McWalmart bought out every store they could on the Eastcoast. All the independants are now outta business. We now eat whatever's in the trough. I laugh evrytime I go in there. Absolute garbage for the most part. Now they have closed everyone else up from undercutting prices, they just turned the price master volume up. We had 6 different options. Now we have 3 shops...All L&McQ! Least you have Steve's.

Rant over.

I build better than I can buy anyways. What am I crying about.

We have Steve's but they changed. Their service isn't what it used to be. We have St John's Music, Lauzon, L&M, Fleet Sound (mostly asian crap) and a coupld of others like Archambault in Gatineau.

Anyhooo.... I got the Parker Nitefly loaded with the dimarzio S/S/S pickups and active piezo mixer/preamp. Should be a nice alternative to my Strat Ultra.
