Dr. Vintage Early Spec Control kit

Installed the Dr.V pot and cap kit in my Les Paul yesterday. Wow, what a difference it made! I truely was not expecting much difference, being the original pots are 500k as well. I got what I was expecting and more.

What I expected was the 50's wiring to allow for zero loss of treble when dialing back the volumes and a smoother taper on the volume control. No dropping out of the mix, by rolling back too far. It's a nice even taper.

What I didn't expect was how much the tone of the pu's was opened up. Same tone just more of it. It was quite a nice suprise. I like it so much, I've decided to replace the original pots in my 74 LP Deluxe as well. :D

have you got a link for the Dr.V pot? - I need a new pot in the bridge position of my Les Paul as it's a bit 'temperamental'.

So... the 500k has a smooth taper?
I usually change them out to 300k.
For me, this would be a plus if it reacts much like a Strat. (250k feel)

I too have my LP's with 50's wiring...

The experience I had with the volume controls, as I roll back the volume from 10 to 6 or so it was gradual, but at around 5 the volume would drop dramatically. The Dr.V kit taper eliminate the problem, so the volume drops evenly as you turn the pot down. It's not about the value, 500k or 300k, but how the pot reacts.

Although, if you're using 300k volume pots, your are not getting the full tone spectrum that is possible from your PUs. Try his kit, you have a treasure of tone to discover! 8)

Definitely need 500Ks in LPs IMO, RSguitarworks makes a great Superpot as does http://retrospec-guitar.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. I have the RS and the taper is terrific.

I'd go for the RS myself. They have a great taper, you don't have to buy a complete quad of pots and caps that you may not want and, best of all, you don't have to deal with Rick!

It really comes down to personal preference. I've had the RS and Dr. V's. I really didn't like the RS super pots. To me the Dr. V's had more of a vintage taper.

My purchase experience with Rick, he was very pleasant and professional. He answered all my questions, before and after the purchase and got my kit out to me in record time. :D Ordered it on a Friday and had it by Tuesday.

my email response from him was both polite and slightly patronising/sarcastic, but he doesn't offer single pots, so its not an option for me - not going to pay for three more pots I don't need plus caps when I already have NOS Bumblebees in my Les Paul.

I do NEED a new pot, so once I get paid next Monday I'll be ordering the RS pot.

The patronising/sarcastic bit is just about right.

And if you happen to like Wolfetone pickups (particularly the Dr. Vintage model) then he's the last person on earth you'd spend your money with after that little episode.
