It was/is a 1957 Les Paul Custom it was revealed in a 25 page thread on My Les Paul Forum..

There's an article about it in the new VG. It's not an original 3 pickup. Pete says somebody installed the middle pup just before he got it. The three cream pups are Dimarzio's he installed right before the crash according to the stroy.

The search was conducted by a Dutch guy who only got a Custom Shop LP Custom in return for the Frampton guitar, which Frampton claimes to have insured for 2 million Dollar...
The Frampton guitar is part of music history, but I probably would have asked a bit more in return...
