Just shove it back in. If it sounds good, have a beer.

Having a pup that's out of phase isn't all that bad, take Peter Green and Gary Moore f.e.

Do you have another PAF, or pickup of the same manufacturer? If so, and you also happen to have some sort of spare magnet around (a Strat polepiece mag works great), you should be able to figure out which way the mag goes back in. It doesnt matter if the mag is upside down or right side up... only that south and north are where they should be, and thats measured at the sides of a PAF magnet.
Another good idea is to put a thin wipe of clear silicone on the mag before you install it. It'll eliminate potential microphonics after you tighten the pickup bottom screws.

Good luck!!

This is true, get a compass to check. N is gonna be towards the screw side and S is gonna be towards the slug side. But generally, just throw that Son bitch in there and have a beer :D

Not as sure about newer pickups, but vintage Gibson magnets tend to have marks on the North pole face ... black ink, etc.

Real PAF? Polarized South at the screws. As mentioned above, a compass with tell you what's up. South will attract North on the compass.

Most PAF types/clones will also be South at the screws though not all.

Either way will work, and won't make a big difference with the pickup standing alone. Impact is on phase when coupled.

Yeah, typically/usually the South pole is screw side.
