WOT, chris, thanks very much.
As for the Keebler old wood theory...you're right, the old growth trees seem to have better tone, lighter weight, from all accounts. I know I'm happy with mine, as this was yet another "project guitar" bought for me by the wife...way back in 2003.
She's the best....

It would be a huge leg up over normal wood anywaySouthbay Ampworks wrote:The old guitars were definitely built from wood that was older, no doubt. My Keebler LP replica was made from 50 year old (cut 50 years before the guitar was made) mahogany and the same age Eastern maple. It weighs in at 8.5 lbs total, so it's not a burden to play for hours at a time.
I haven't weighed this 63 SG but I'm sure it's lighter than the Keebler...I understand that regular "air" drying is better than "kiln" drying for guitars, although sooner or later the kiln dried wood should catch up to the old "air" dried wood...or at least that would seem to make sense.

This has been a hell of a long road getting this guitar project together. I'm just happy it's coming to an end...including the cost of doing it! LOL

I've got a few old Marshall cabs already...but what might you be talking about? Is there a "Fool 4x12" cab out there?robert wrote:Hi Jim,
a real artist piece! If this guitar is finished, you will urgently need the matching 4x12 cabinet for it!

Robert
