I know he used a Soldano SLO head to get this sound but still, a 50 watter may do the trick?

I've just sold my Metro JTM45 because I felt I wanted some more "ballsy" sounding amp (don't get me wrong the JTM45 is great also)! Do you think that a 50 watter could get me to this wonderful tone land? I love the fact that his sound can be so clean when he turns the volume knob down and so gainy with the volume up... You can also check out the video with BB King playing The Thrill is Gone with Gary, awesome sound too... I can also purchase a F...R Super Reverb but I don't think I can really get rock sounds like those out of it, can I? On the other hand I also play slow blues tunes like Clapton's Old Love, some Bill Perry.

So if a 50 watter can get me there, with what specs? 68 lead? bass?70 lead? bass?
I'll put a Lar/Mar in there!

Building amps is quite addictive because it will be my fourth Metro build if I get one!

My 50 watter doesnt sound like that. I reviewed the soldano schematic and the amp is very different from a marshall. I think you'll need to either buy or build that amp to get that sound.

Just stick a pedal in front.

I think at the time he recorded that album he was using a JTM45 with a Marshall Guv'nor pedal, so yeah, a pedal should get you there.
