Stringseperation on JMP 50 plexi

Any suggestions on how to get a more stringseparated distorted tone on my 50 watt plexi? My main guitar is a Gibson LP with Lollar Imperials. Play through a D13 2x12 cab carrying greenbacks. Also use Weber Mass 150 attenuator. The rack is pure rock`n roll with a very nice classic distorted plexi tone. But if it`s possible, I would have liked some more stringseparation in the overdriven tones. I`ve heard swapping to certian tubes in V2 could help me with this. Glad for all suggestions and opinions.
Mary

+1
Especially the 6550 suggestion.
Not sure you'd have much luck changing by V2 though. Now a lower gain tube in V3 (5751 perhaps) might be the ticket.

Thanx!
Gonna try that V3 move first!

It should work but you may have slightly less gain.

I've been checking out this thread and thinking about trying this on my amp when I get back from offshore:
http://forum.metroamp.com/viewtopic.php ... &sk=t&sd=a" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I'm also considering KT66's, I have a couple in my Super Reverb that I want to try out in the old plexi. I understand they're less compressed and grainy than the EL34's.

You could also try removing the V2A cathode cap.
I would try that before swapping in different power tubes.

Yeah, the V2A cathode cap, that's the post I was referring to earlier.
I've been wanting to try that. I'd like my amp to clean up better with the volume knob.

Just did! Sucsess!! The swap didn`t make a huge different, but slightly enough to make me happy. And thank god for that, because the other, more technical suggestions you good people gave me, I didn`t understand one bit off! I`m impressed with the level of knownledge upon you guys. Really I am.
Thank you!
Cheers

Roe - vi må vel kanskje treffes snart sånn at du får tatt en justering på Metroen min som vi snakket om ifjor?

the other factor is that lollar paf . It's soft, fat and contributing to your lack of 'string separation'. At least the one I used to own sounded that way.
