Marstran 1202-188 wiring help

Post by Exojam » Tue Jul 17, 2018 10:58 am

I need to see if I can get some assistance with the wiring for this PT.

It arrived with no wires attached (not a big deal) but it has 13 soldering points compared to the 5 wire PT shown in the build manual.

I did search the forum and did find the below chart and added my notes to it.

Can someone please confirm for me my notes are correct so I wire it up correctly?

I have attached a picture of the PT and the little wiring chart that came with it. Sorry but the message I get is that the forum quote has been meet.

Thanks in advance.

From the manual with the letter of the lug I believe it goes to.

Solder the PT heater CT (center tab), Green with yellow stripe to the ground lug on F1 ——— J

Cut the PT High Voltage secondary CT, red with yellow to 3”. Strip 1.5” and route it through the ground lug, than onto F1 negative terminal. ——- E

Twist and route the PT heater wires, green, to V5 , pins 2 and 7. I and K.

Twist 4” of PT High Voltage secondary wires (red) and route them to the bridge rectifier. C and G.

So just to make sure I have this correct I will only be using pins C, G, I, K, and E from the secondary side and the brown and black wires from the primary side.

What is weird to me is the one marked “com” that is next to the two 3.5 and 0. Is it not used for anything?

Information I found on the forum with my notes added.
A=5VAC TO GZ34 RECTIFIER IF YOU HAVE ONE — Do have this 5 volt lug
B=5VAC TO GZ34 RECTIFIER IF YOU HAVE ONE — Do not this 5 volt lug
C=HT HIGH TO RECTIFIER — to bridge rectifier
D=HT LOW — not used
E=0 GROUND — ground lug, than onto F1 negative terminal
F=HT LOW — not used
G=HT HIGH TO RECTIFIER — to bridge rectifiers
H=COMMON GROUND — not used
I=3.15 VAC HEATER — pins 2 and 7 on V5
J=0 GROUND — ground lug, than onto F1 negative terminal
K=3.15 VAC HEATER — pins 2 and 7 on V5

You didn't mention what amp you are building. Do you have a link to the wiring diagram for the PT? I could not find it on the Marstran sight. He does have a forum...http://forum.marstran.com/ that may be able to help but if you can link the PT we should be able to sort it out for you. To post pics I believe that you need to use a hosting sight these days as the forum no longer allows direct uploads.

I apologize for not responding earlier as I did not get a notification someone had replied back to me.

I am building the 50 watt kit as it is listed on the Valvestrom site.

Anyway I did get it all figured out and am all set.

If you are using a Marstran 1202-118 50 watt power transformer vs what you wrote 1202-188. Use the brown 120 volt. Do not hook up the black 100 volt lead. The common lug H is for the neutral “white “ wire on your three conductor power cable. Your power cable should have a black(120 volt “hot”), white (0 volt “neutral “) and green (earth ground). You also need to hook the J terminal (heater center tap) to the chassis for ground reference.
