I use Kester 44 60/40 solder. Not sure if you're in the US or in a country that is part of the EU, but in the EU you may only be able to get RoHS compliant lead free solder, which is tin based rather than being lead based.hopkinWFG wrote:Hellow there !! ... well i'll like do out my first DIY and i am eyeing for a jcm 800 2203 100 watt ... i was thinking what are the difference in tone if i were to get it DIY myself than to purchase it readily built?

That being said, if you decide to buy a MetroAmp kit, there won't be any difference in tone whether George builds it or you do, but if it's your first build I guarantee you that George can do a much neater wiring job unless you're patient enough to take your time with it.

I thought that would be the case in the UK, but I was widely surprised when I ordered some solder for work, from RS components mid-week. There was lots of non-RoHS compliant leaded solders available.flemingmras wrote: I use Kester 44 60/40 solder. So I ordered a shit-load!

Re: Building question for a DIY...
back when the ROHS thing came in, I got a great deal on ebay for a box of 60/40 Ersin multicore solder and still have three reels left - its great stuff. this post has reminded me that I really should stock up though - that lead free stuff is shit.demonufo wrote:I thought that would be the case in the UK, but I was widely surprised when I ordered some solder for work, from RS components mid-week.
