Sounds exciting man. I for sure would love to mess around with a jtm45/100 but they are not a common amp! From my understanding the loudness on those is in the middle of a super lead and a jtm45. Kinda like a jtm 45 with much bigger balls  I've messed around on quite a few jtm45's and they are wonderful amps. They do that thick clean strat thing better than just about everything out there.

On the marshall website they quote hendrix saying "I love my old marshalls, theres nothing can beat them" or something like that.

I used to always wonder why he'd change his model amp so much. Cuz if you think about it, if you have a really good piece of gear - youre gonna use that sucker year in and year out. Hendrix seemed to use the newest marshall available every year. 67 68 (fender period) and 69.

But by him saying he loved his "old" marshalls maybe he really dug the jtm45/100 in the studio and since they werent being made anymore he just used the modern stuff to go out and get banged up on the road.

Apparently hendrix had a light modification done to his jtm45/100 amps which allowed a little more treble and gain.

Alright well good luck with it man I hope it turns out killer!

The 'Dickinson' amp has a 560pF cap in the tone stack and 33k slope resistor like a Superlead. It also has the slightly later dual 32uF in the preamp with a 10k dropper between the limbs which lowers the voltage on V1. This would give slighly earlier break up and more upper mid emphasis (see the Duncan Tone Stack Calculator  ).
I have some pics of this and the schematic that was on the Marstran site at one time.

also, the dickinson amp had a 10k instead of the 8k2 after the pi. not that it matters. mods could very well have been performed after hendrix had the amp or after he recorded with it.

At the moment i'm abroad and will be home after one month. Then i'll start to post some pics and start my silly question marathon :D By the time i return home i should have all the nos parts there and the stuff from metro amp store and probably marstran trannies will be ordered right after that. (still looking for alternatives for the transformers though - one of them being Ingo from ex Shinrock - but i'm not sure if he also makes an authentic PT (the OT is listed on his site).
Thanks to Neil and Roe for answering an avalanche of questions and especially to Neil, who never got tired of me nagging him - he even sent me some hard to find parts, which helped even more.

Regards,

VintageCharlie
