JTM45 or Plexi50

Post by Henri » Mon May 24, 2010 1:46 pm

I'm doubting which is 'the one' I should buy, a JTM45 or Plexi50.
Here is a list of bands that I like. I also added the amp of which I think would be suitable for the sound I want to achieve. Please correct me if wrong.

Jimi Hendrix (JTM45 and maybe plexi 50?)
The Who (JTM45)
Van Halen (Plexi 50)
Black keys (JTM45 and maybe plexi 50)
Pearl Jam (Plexi 50)
Nirvana (JTM45 and Plexi 50)
CCR (JTM45)
Oasis (JTM45 and Plexi 50)
Metallica (Plexi 50)
Queens of the Stone Age (Plexi 50)
Them Crooked Vultures (Plexi 50)
Muse (Plexi 50)
Smashing Pumpkins (JTM45 and Plexi 50)
Stevie Ray Vaughan (JTM45)
Weezer (Plexi 50)
Wolfmother (JTM45 and Plexi 50)
ZZ Top (Plexi 50)

Which one would you recommend for me?

If you're not much of a palm muter and want the "woman tone" ala Eric Clapton and lots of sag/compression, go with the JTM-45.

If you're a heavy palm muter and like the amp to be somewhat "tight and punchy", go with the lead spec plexi 50 with the later era circuit (i.e. split cathode, 2.7K/.68uF cathode resistor/bypass cap and .0022uF coupling cap on the bright channel).
There's just that fine line between stupid and clever - Nigel Tufnel
