it cuts it fine and 1/4 is perfect. ;)

The way I did it was to clamp a 1/4" drill bit in a small vice and turn the knob into it clockwise by hand so you can control the depth.

of course i have a drill that i can control the speed of the bit. its not rocket science. easy does it. ;)
