I've been crusing the forums for a while and I'm getting close to pulling the trigger on a metro kit. (i'll probably build it with my father since he has a lot more electronics expierience than I do). I'm still not sure of which kit though. I gig pretty heavily 2 to 3 times a week and play 400 to 1000 people capacity venues and record as well. My heart lies in the old marshall sound but I do play mostly a big mix of covers when I gig. I've been using a 18 watt marshall clone but the low end is non existant and the over all sound is kinda mushy. Im wondering if the jtm45 clone is gonna be too mushy in the lows for my taste? I like the idea of a 30 watt amp but I want the tightest low end I can get. Should I just be a man and get the 100 watt? Another concern is the lack of a master volume. Anybody using master volumes on your 100 watts? Do you feel the master volume allows more versatility for live use or can you get all the sounds you need with just an attenuator?

What kind of sounds are you looking for? There are a good variety of players here on the metro forum so you'll get a lot of opinions.

What speaker cabs do you use with your 18 watt clone (open back combo, 4x12, etc.)? That will obviously have a big effect on bass response.

The 100 watts with SS rectifiers will have a tighter low end punch than a JTM 45 but it sounds like you prefer a lower wattage amp. It just depends on what you're trying to get.

get a jtm50 (or a jtm45) with a ss rectifier and a slight mod at v1 so that you get tighter bass.

As far as the tone I'm trying to get- my ideal sound is the snarling les paul song remains the same kinda tone but I like to feel the low end on stage so thats why I want the tighter punchier bass. I'm not digging the sag that my 18 watt has. I like a more dynamic less compressed tone. My main guit will be a les paul for most gigs and the occasional strat and tele. Cabs will be 2x12 ear candy buzzbomb closed back/ported with celestion G12H's and a stock marshall 4x12 with the same speakers at home in the studio.

Roe, if I get a metro 45 can I just get a plug in SS rectifier or will it not have the same effect as a hardwired SS rectifier?
