Heater Wiring Question W/Pic (Revised)

Post by Beavis » Sat Jul 07, 2007 7:43 pm

Is this OK?

My concern is that I may have the wiring too close to the tube sockets.

Thanks in advance :)

That will probably work okay. However, if it were mine, I would do it again for a few reasons:

- they are a little too close to the sockets
- the wires should be twisted evenly without "one wrapped around the other"
- personal satisfaction (pride, ego, etc.)

Heater wires are a pain but it does look nice and may help with noise reduction when they are done "right". It's your amp, so do whatever makes you happy. 8)

I would re-do them, they look to close to the sockets. It's easier to put a very tight twist on them in a drill then install them in sections. Here is a photo of my 50 watter, not that I am an expert but it does take practice but it's worth it in the long run.

I thought they were a bit tight and I know there are a few spots where the wires are not wrapped evenly.

It looks kinda crappy too.

Thanks for talking me into re-doing them :)

You said it, not me!

Seriously, I'm sure you'll be happier after re-doing them. It's worth the extra effort, IMO.

Yeah, I was pretty sure I should just do them over.

Beavis, that looks better than most factory Marshall heaters, so you're doing well.
One thing I noticed though on V7 where the ground wire originates, it looks like it might be on the wrong pin, maybe just an illusion cause of the pic and shadows, but check it out to be sure.
In every build I've done, at least once I've soldered onto the wrong pin at some point.

I'm expecting to mess up somewhere.

Is this correct here:

I imagine I ought to tweak that resistor lead a little so that pin 1 doesn't get left out.

Hey, That's correct!
I was referring to the heater wires where the first daisy chain starts at the far power tube socket. (V-7) The black ground wire looks like it might be on the wrong pin, but it's probably just an optical illusion cause of the pic, just wanted you to be sure.
Sorry about the confusion.
