metro amp buzzing?

when the amp is on standby there is a buzzing type noise that you can hear.

also with my les paul plugged in, even if the volume on the amp is on 2, the amp still buzzes if i take my hand off of the strings

if i put my hand on the strings, its fine.

i'm thinking it might be some kind of grounding problem, with the power strip but it happens both at my house and at band practice.

could a bad cable also cause the problem?

what could it be?

this is one built my george so i'm sure it isn't something inside the amp thats the problem.

The amps with the power and output trannies sitting right next to each other are notorious for this. It's simply the power transformer's magnetic field inducing noise into the output transformer. And it goes away (or becomes unnoticeable) when you flip the standby to play.
Most guitars with the strings grounded will buzz to some degree when you take your hands off the strings/bridge/tuners or any other grounded metal part. I can't think of a guitar that I've owned that hasn't done it (save for one mistake with EMG pickups that don't require string grounding.)
