Late ‘60s Plexi Prices

Post by journeyman73 » Wed Dec 07, 2022 6:22 pm

Along with everything else these days, it seems like prices on vintage Marshall plexis have exploded over the last few years.

Really only having visibility into asking prices - I am curious from those who may know better, what should one expect to pay for a '67-'69 Super Lead these days? Let's assume basically all original, unmodded other than expected maintenance type things (i.e. replaced caps, screen resistors, etc). I am in the U.S., if that matters.

Thanks!

I haven't watched lately. But everyone is saying prices are crazy. Friedman told me I could easily get over $3,000 for my 1980 2203 not too long ago. That was shocking to me.

All original plexi head without mods, holes etc....I'd budget $10k. If you can accept player's grade, but with original transformers you should be able to do a bit better.

Hey, thanks George!

How much of a spread would you guess between plexi panel vs early metal face?

I'm not sure these days. The best bargain in a "plexi" used to be a late '69 or '70 metal panel. Still used the same components and trannys as a late plexi, but without the premium price.

What are you seeing for sale lately?

I sold my 69 SuperBass and my 71 SuperLead heads 4 years ago for $4500 each plus shipping/paypal fees. It took less than 18 hours for both of them to sell. My guess is that they could have sold for more, but the trend upwards was already going on back in 2018.
