Outta Luv Agiiiiin!!

Post by rgalpin » Tue Oct 02, 2007 1:26 pm

I put drums and bass to this clip after the fact which was an interesting exercise in and of itself... I did it because I wanted to hear how the amp would sound in the context of a mix with the FRED diodes in the recitifier.

some of timing is a little funky but check it out - the FREDs are growing on me...

sound good Rob!

there is something i like about the Fred's but there is one thing i don't like... they sound.. make the amp sound solid state? or they make it sound alittle more hiFi.
r u hearing this as well or is it my ears and system over here? :)

what are you liking about them? is it sound and or do they feel differnet?

Mark

they do - they make the whole amp have a solid state thing to it which is of course very weird - because all the glass is still in there so how can it be acting SO DIFFERENTLY - they are addictive because they feel so solid and true - they make it feel like you are standing on solid ground.

i'm going to try some stuff to find a middle ground and try to get the best of both worlds - the solid true FRED feel AND the good ol' growl.

do you know which filter cap would be most closely associated with the rectifier? screens or mains?

mains are at 50 now - i'll try dropping them to see if i can get it to loosen up.

can you unhook one side of the 50+50 mains caps in the same way that you unhook one side of the screens caps to lower the rating to 2 50us in series which would equal 25u??
