Hi I was thinking of building something similar. Did you do a #36 or #39 mod or neither?

wow.......these are so old, I forgot I posted them. those clips were with a stock 2203, .1u over the 10k plus another 10k/.1u xtra stage with el34's through v30's I believe. i think i was using the lower filters as well on those. it was very very bright, too bright for me, but sounded good for recording purposes. im getting ready to switch back over to el34's right now and I will tweak the amp again, as I didn't really care for the 6550's all that much. i might go back to the lower filters as well. not the greatest playing though. ive improved on that lately, so I will do some clips again later down the road.

Really.. Stock. Did you raise the filtering? Was there enough gaiin for you with the 10k and the .1u on the third preamp?
Regardless, i would love to hear the new tweaks

i think it did have the 470k/2n2 peaker which gives more mids, so I stand corrected.
yeah I started with '68 spec lower filters and i ended up raising the filters back to '69 spec, I might lower them back to '68 spec if the amp feels too stiff, its the screens filters that matter, so I might go back to the 32u/32u cap cans.......no another 10k/.1 wasn't enough gain. its got a 3.3k/.22u in it now, so I will tweak it from there once my tubes come in, I got some Svetlana el34's this time, I prefer winged c's, but im not paying 200 bucks for tubes unless they are NOS tubes.

I gotcha.. Im new to tweaking amps. I assume it takes time. I hate my sound. Lol
I get confused but I am trying.. Your clips give me hope.. I only have 3 tubes presently. Cascaded.
What is the  reason for raising the filtering?

the filters can affect how the amp feels, stiff or loose depending on the screens and pre amp filters. a bit complicated. lower filters can have a better bass response to them.
