'68 12 series 100W replica clips

Post by VelvetGeorge » Sat Sep 02, 2006 5:20 pm

I needed some George time today, it's been a hell of a week. So I made some clips of the 12 series head that I had at Tonefest.

Same basic recording setup, except I had to plug in another cab. The Heritage G12M's and the Royer mic were both breaking up.

All knobs are on "10". Straight into the bright channel. My Les Paul has low output PU's (7.35k) and they want to feedback a bit if I get too close.

Each clip starts out with the amp set on 400 volts, then has the same riff set to 500V. Which makes these files a bit larger, typcially 900-1.5kb each.

Carry on My Wayward Son

Rock Candy

Enjoy!

Mmmm, I know all you guys rave about the 400V setting but I'm all about the 500V myself, like the springier punchier feel of it....I know the low voltage compression makes playing a breeze but I'm all over 500+ plate volts anymore!!!

Finally, here's my own personal little wankfest.

The first clip is all on the 400V setting. The second is all 500V.

Damn! You were on this one right away, Flames. I'm sucker for 500V too.

Blackie Lawless told me he would cut a track on the right with his '74, a track on the left with my 12 series on 500V and then a track up the middle with the 12 series on 400V. He said it is so thick and crunchy you can taste it.
I can't wait to hear the record.

The improv clips really clinch it for my tastes, the 500V setting really lets that pick attack cut like a knife (but not an icepick!!!) 8) 8)

Drag out that 45/100 George. it's lonely too..........

What cab were you using George?

BTY the shopping cart will not load a "bare bones kit" for some reason?

I was talking the repro.....let alone time for the originals!!!!

I think we can schedule you in another hour around work and family in March.......

It is sad though....I thought getting a UA would free me up to play some when the family was around, I forgot that you need to actually have time to sit still and play by yourself though. Maybe next year........since my wife started night classes again putting together another band has fallen by the wayside for sure.

It's a metro cab. A straight bottom with heritage G12M's.

Sorry about the bare bones listing. I need to install a patch that fixes issues with sub products. Keep an eye out for that this weekend.

Your telling me you dimed your 12xxx into a bottom cab with G12m Heritages and they didn't blow?

Oh yeah! I did build one of those.... March sounds about right.

Let me ask a favor: please post some no holds barred opinions of these clips. I think they do the amp justice, but only for everything dimed clips. I want to show more variety when I put clips on the '68 page of the main site.

The 12 series went into my '70 slant- straight in. Also through a Hot Plate set down one clip and into the metro bottom.
Amp set to 8 ohms.
I had to cut back a few db to protect the Royer ribbon mic. Even on 400V it was taking a beating.

+1

I also like the 500V setting better, huge of punch and cut through, but w/o cutting you the ears off the head!

Especially the 'improv 500V' clip above might be the best sounding clip at all IMO on this board :o

Congrats, George! Great playing!
