Yes I admit I am an Allman Brothers Band fan. I saw them in 1991 in Giessen (a small town 50km north of Frankfurt/Germany). Too bad that they only had a slot of 1 hour. I would have liked to see more of them. Warren to me is one of the most spectacular guitar players I have ever seen. Especially when he takes the long intense solos like on "Elizabeth Reed" or "Whipping Post" he really starts to wrestle with the guitar, squeezing every note out of it. Great slide player, too. On top of that a quite accomplished singer as well.

+1, one of the few that could step in and keep up with Dicky and the
ABB grove while adding something original... although Dicky
isn't into it any longer.

Yeah, but Dickey isnt into it cause the rest of the band says he's not. I have a bunch of bootleg ABB tapes from about a year or two B/4 he was fired, and his playing is inexcusably sloppy. He'll make a REALLY glaring mistake, and then typical of his style, repeat it 4 or 5 times, as if he meant it. Honestly, some of it sounds absolutely horrible.
Reading some of the interviews post getting fired, he's swearing up and down that he was not drinking or doing drugs anymore. I dunno... then whats the excuse? He's not playing like that now. There's also rumors that he had become sort of a dictator in that band, like he thought it was the "Betts Brothers Band", LOL.
IMO, the band sounds better now with Warren and Derek Trucks. Trucks may not have invented a style like Dickey did, but I think he is a more versatile player, and his style is WAY more sophisticated. (IMO).
I DO miss Dickeys vocals, and his playing WHEN he was sober, but that seemed infrequent.

well of course Dickey was $^%#ed up more than a few times.IMO

You heard him taunting and insulting the crowd when they were asking to hear Blue Sky. No this was not called for, but on the other hand Bad Boy Dick comes around and cleans up a little and what does he see the party jam band members sober eating ice cream before a gig, its not in him, again IMO. And Derrick I'm sorry, he sounds great and is THE WORLDS BEST technical player, but he's duller than a Card board cutout...
when he play's i mean he gets his SG to sound like its crying or just singing but with his emotionless nature and not having the old ABB wild party jam background, Its a disconnect to me. He's good but not ABB
caliber feel wise, like singing, Done Some Body Wrong? I don't know.
Derrick does some good stuff with his band and on his own.

   ~~ Yeah, he does stand sorta flatfooted when he's playing, doesnt he??!! I guess its all personal preference. I like Derek a lot, and admittedly, I was getting a little sick of Dickey towards the end, with the sloppy playing, and that crowd insulting shit.
In a perfect world, he woulda cleaned his act up years ago, and improved his playing as a result, and no doubt he'd still be in the band. But things happen for a reason, and it is what it is. I still love ABB, with or without him, and obviously the band saw no problems surviving without him. I wish him well, though. 8) 8)
