Sonny Landreth

Post by rgalpin » Tue Jan 01, 2008 7:03 pm

I just saw Sonny Landreth for the first time - on Clapton's Crossroads DVD. I am assuming that this is only because I live under a rock changing diapers.

Can any fans out there tell me what's the best Sonny Landreth album to get for a Sonny newby?

after some listening and searching, i found this:

a live album called Grant Street.

this is the coolest, nasty slide playing i've ever heard. it's just far enough out there on the edge to be inspiring and innovative but not too far.

anybody dig this dude's playing?

I picked up South of I-10 in 1995 or so. I did so because I saw an article in a guitar magazine regarding his "fretting behind the slide" technique - - as well as a few shots of his DEADLY lookin' chromed out Lester. Bling Bling. Been a Landreth fan since!

Too much echo on 'Grant Street' for me, but yeah, he's one of the best - especially when he's playing 32-20 Blues with Warren Haynes on the 'Deepest End' Live CD.

All of them  including his latest, "From the Reach". I, literally, just got back from one of his shows. Usually artists skip over Nashville like a dirty diaper; but, Sonny (and come to think of it, Oz Noy, last month) both dropped into 3rd & Lindsley. Both great shows!! There were some problems tonight with the vocal mic; but, Sonny had a "whatever" attitude and just ripped out the kind of incredible slide work only he can. That 1x12 was screaming for mercy!!!

Just found that. Hank Shizzoe is slide player from Switzerland. Good vibe...
