A BIG part of the AC/DC tone is Malcolm Young. He rocked a Gretsch guitar with a Filtertron pickup into his amps. It had that clear, clangy kerrang sound.
Well recently, I wired my humbucker with a series/parallel switch. Most humbuckers are wired series, it makes a humbucker have a hotter, thicker sound. In parallel, it is cleaner and brighter sounding. When I switched to parallel and hit some chords, there it was. That Malcolm tone.
So on a hunch, I looked up Filtertron pickups. Whaddya know. Their coils are wired in parallel. Giving them that clear, ringing tone.
So now, when I play some AC/DC, I put the coils in parallel. When it's time to take a lead, I switch to series.
Easy way to AC/DC tone
