I picked that book up to read on trip to NY. It's a bit of a tough read. Interesting thing...the woman he thought was his mother was actually his grandma, his "sister" his mother. He seems to want to blame all his troubles on this. Just getting to the part where he's starting to covet his neighbor's wife...Patti Harrison.....
Man, I couldn't read this book so I put it down for a while. I tried a couple more chapters over the weekend and I'm liking Clapton less and less. What an arrogant mother fucker! Equating himslef to Jimi among other things. This guy has a VERY high opinion of himself. That "Clapton is God" shit must have went straight to his head. I'm done with this bullshit.

I'd rather read Sonny Bargers HA book again...and THAT was a tough read.

Hear you Chief, yes he is indeed an arrogant person, that's why GM will never play at the Crossroads Festival, which is blown out BS in my opinion and I will never support.
Clapped out is the word and Sir Eric, should stick to playing cricket, ect.
He has traded off the Bluesbreaker lore for so many years that it is ridiculous, Peter Green's impact was just as, and even moore pronounced than Eric's, with the BB's.
I would say Peter Green is probably the happier of the two, though definitely the poorer financially.
Also this beloved Crossroads treatment facility, is only for the wealthy, as it must all be prepaid in advance to be accepted and it costs a lot of money.
Plus Peter virtually gave away his guitar to Gary Moore, whereas Eric whored them all out to guitar center and hopefully has an even greater tax break through it. :)

So I forced myself to read a bit more....

What a FUCK up! By his own accounts he was drunk and high constantly and was hitting on anything that he could get his hands on, even in rehab.

Said while he was in rehab he had chores to do like make his bed and set the table and he says he had no idea how 'cuz he NEVER did.

Sounds like Eddie took after his idol just a little too closely....

Hope you don't mind if I come in here, but I had the same thoughts reading the Clapton book. I always thought he got himself together and is looking straight ahead now, but this book - as honest as it is or at least seems - is so full of failure, sickness and tragedy. He's not getting over anything, he's giving in all the time. In some recent interviews he left a different impression on me, quite aware of what he's doing - although I see your point as well, Yngwie, you know much more than me here. To me it seems Eric only survived because his own myth and people with money kept him alive. That's sad.
But not only that. I read the 'Skydog' biography and the Muddy Waters book by Robert Gordon recently - and to tell you the truth, this keeps me from reading the Gerry McAvoy book now. I'm so sick of these storys - not their music - but they are related in a way... The last time I was really shocked was when Chris Whitley died three years ago. Do you know him? He was great. Why do all these people loose it?

No problem, Fritz!

McAvoy's book about Gallgher wasn't bad. He comes off a little pompous but all in all it's good read about Rory.

Clapton even admits to his arrogance and beligerence more than a few times. Doesn't sound like a very likable guy (unless you were his drinking buddy  )

Clapton put a picture of the Ferrari he crashed on one of his drunk period album covers. I seem to recall it wasn't a particularly fast one, lucky for him.
Pete Townshend helped Eric out by dragging him from his heroin brownout and sponsoring Eric's comeback Rainbow show, lot's of people have helped and tolerated the Wonderful Tonight Sir Eric, I know he has been a major dissapointment to me, at least he is a model for sobriety unlike that pagan Charlie Sheen

I just read the part about the crash. Said he never even swerved. The skid marks went straight to the van which overturned. I think he said he left the scene then came back.

Came in on this conversation a little late, but about 5 minutes ago, I was all psyched to tell you about Clapton going into my boy Matts store, 30th St Guitars, just before he did the gig with Steve Winwood at the Garden.

Now all of a sudden, I dont give a shit about it...

What's wrong with Charlie Sheen, and what's wrong with Paganism?
Christianity is Pagan to the bone, in disguise, do some research.
