While I totally appreciate Yngwie's amazing technical skill and chops, I was never able to get into listening to him.
On that note (pun intended), I saw this Youtube video today, and is it just me, or does that Strat look rather small in his hands?
Is he one of those Scandinavian/Nordic giants? lol
Honestly, it really struck me how large his *person* and hands appear relative to the guitar.

Yes Yngwie is a fairly imposing figure when you meet him in person. When he bounded out the side stage door in Tucson, it was quite a sight!!
All dressed in black, very tall, ect.
He was very patient and cool about me not having a pen for his autograph, so all the time I could have been chatting with him, I had to look all through my car for a pen, ect.
He does have large hands and indeed dwarfs a Stratocaster.I hope he tours again and closer to me, not just House of Blues, ect.

Hey Dave, havent been able to post for awhile, I've missed these forums.

I think Yngwie's 'target' weight ('83-'88) was possibly like 150 lbs. or so. From pics he appears under 6 feet, probably 5'10 or 5 '11. I could be wrong, but he appeared to be that way back in the day. Now is a different story though. I'd say he wieghs in at over 200 now. He looked a bit heavier on that VH1 thing a few months back, than he did when I saw him in May of '06. Also, I think his hair is getting TOO BIG, I mean its getting sorta 'Las Vegas' looking. I think Yngwie would look 20 pounds lighter if he was to get a hair cut. I liked his hair in 84 to 85. It suited him real well.

Ya'll know I'm a BIG Malmsteen fan, and am in no way trying to rag on him. I just think he could do a better job at keeping his physic in the same great shape as his chops.

I am actually gonna be building a 'reliced' black strat like his STEELER -ALCATRAZZ era one here real soon.

Welcome back Billy! Yes I remember we had that discussion that the early black Yngwie Strat was way cool and worth reproducing.
I think that would be killer with the magic 7.25" radius and I am recently leaning towards mild scallops, as on the Duck.
The prices on the CS '69 are high and a suitable replica can be assembled for much less.
Are you thinking a Musikraft neck as you seem to prefer those?
Also now is the time to consider the machine screw neck mounting with the brass inserts, I know it makes a huge difference to the tone/vibration transfer.
I have a set of the screws from Fender and a neck plate if you are interested. I don't have the brass inserts though. I bought these for my project Strat, given the economy, I don't know when that will happen.. :?
Yeah Yngwie needs to lose the ridiculous hair extensions and aviator glasses, and he wouldn't look like such a Vegas parody of a neo-classical guitarist. He is looking like an Yngwie tribute artist rather than the real thing..

Since the 80s, Yngwie has grown 5 inches taller and 2 feet wider.
DLR's hair ended up on Yngwie.

While I'm posting BS, in that Apeggios from Hell, Yngwies right hand is classic stuff.
Very small picking movements for speed.
Where do people get that Yngwie sweep picked.
I just read an interview with Yngwie and he said he doesn't sweep pick but picks the notes.
Yngwie and DiMeola have amazing right hand picking and left hand coordination arpeggio technique.

I'm not a big fan of Yngwies music but I appreciate what he does.

I'm not much a fan of his music lately either leadguy..    , with a few exceptions. The thing is his playing is as good as ever, so who knows??
Yes he picks up/down/up, no sweep picking for our Swedish boy..
And remember his right hand is the one that was completely paralyzed after Yngwie's life threatening head injury. He had to totally learn how to play again as well as the gross motor movements of just using your hand again (dominant hand). This has been an achievement in itself. It takes a lot of mental willpower and that he still blows everyone else away in that style, the style he created, not Ritchie Blackmore, with respect, is great.. :)

Hi,i,m new here and would like some advice re set ups,i have various malmsteen strats(just love em!),and i find the dsl 100 and yjm308 too shrill (classic crunch channel).
I heard there is someone in this forum that modifies these pedals better than the analogman? Also would like opinions on his tone,i find the fire and ice, magnum opus tones far superior to what he has now,i,m also thinking of replacing the dsl with a vintage modern?
Thanks for any help!

He is referring to sweeping scale runs; ie 3nps DUD, DUD, DUD, thus sweeping through the string crosses.

He most certainly sweeps arps.
