Right on Mike, and sax too right! I posted on the Gary Moore forum how Gary wasn't looking too well lately, not just all the fat jokes everyone thinks are hilarious, but he is short of breath, ect.
Gary was a pallbearer at Rory's funeral and spoke to him the week before he died and was concerned for his health as we both read in our Derringer, Trower, Marriot, Gallagher books, that no one else has read.
These Irish guys don't always enjoy the best of health, Van Morrison as well.
Even a guy like Slash respects Rory as true original player, nobody ever gave more than he did to his audiences and he toured for many years in failing health, but he loved music and brought happiness to millions with his true love of what he did the best, RG needs to be mentioned more often then he is.
The first pinch harmonics I ever heard were from Rory.. :D
Loved the guy and still miss him deeply

Rory is, without question, my hero. True to himself, he never bowed to any commercial pressure. He was totally immersed in performing and playing emotionally charged MUSIC, free from artifice, effect and overproduction. Reckon he's rolling over in his grave at the thought of todays leverage - marketing 'bands'

Damn straight, six!

I, like Dave had the good fortune to see Rory live a couple of times at My Fathers Place on Long Island, perhaps THE best place to see a guy like RG. And, I too saw all those Kirschner & Midnight Special shows. I always remember thinking "Here's that fucking guy in the flannel shirt and denim jacket that KICKS ass on that battered Strat" NO one could touch him. And he's rolling over in his grave as I am rolling over in my bed with the SHIT that rock and roll has become.

So there's an old yarn from Woodstock that goes something like this: A reporter
comes up to Jimi Hendrix after the concert and asks him what it feels like to be
the best guitar player in the world. And Jimi says: "How should I know? Go ask
Rory Gallagher." ( You would never hear AVH say that.... :evh:  )

I love Rory Gallagher! I go through long periods where I listen to his music, especially the 1970s albums, over and over.

In 1991, I spent a day with Rory in Santa Cruz, California, during what proved to be his last U.S. tour. With my tape recorder rolling, we spoke at length about his influences (especially his blues heroes), his albums, techniques, his beloved battered old Strat, his strategy for solong, songwriting, and so on. I've recently transcribed that whole interview and posted it on my blog. So if you feel you might like to get to know Rory a little better, I invite you to check it out:

Interesting tid bit on Rory's wiki page "He was David Coverdale's second choice (after Jeff Beck) to replace Ritchie Blackmore in Deep Purple. Gallagher chose to perform in his own band."

Rory Gallagher, yet another stellar player the evh guys will never appreciate.....

I really liked Rory's style (and TONE) on alot of the '70's era stuff. You just couldnt back him into a corner, concerning what he was capable of playing. He would and COULD suprise people (myself included) who initially wrote him off as a 'blues player' . He could improvise over any progression or tempo. I've heard him get into Zappa-esque vibes, jazz, fusion, etc. He should have been dubbed 'The Natural' concerning his abilities (and image).
