Before Pirates of the Carribean, before Night of the Living Dead, there was the art school drop out, Keef, he of the 5 string Tele. Before he fell out of the tree or snorted dad's ashes, this was the man provided with heroin by the US government so the Stones could finish their US tour,

Rumours abounded of him having his blood exchanged in Switzerland, ect.
What is true, is Keith defined the nasty Rock n' Roll riff, he is the Human Riff after all. Keith had all the kool early vintage guitars, Les Paul Bursts and Customs, and may have even started the vintage 'relic' guitars, by having his guitars, ah, 'distressed' by Fender, before he took delivery, so he would feel at home with them.
Although it surely is a miracle that he still draws a breath, and lately, ok for the last 10 years,
he appears to feel it is better to strike a pose than actually play, that's ok, if you are Keith Richards, you are rock and roll, and we thank him for that
