I blame this dude completely for making me want to play fast after the first time I heard Fast as a Shark. To me Wolf is the PERFECT Metal Guitarist.

From what I understand is that his tone is Marshall Super Lead smashed in the face with a MXR Distortion +. Wolf's along with Scott Ian's Marshall tone are my two favorite Marshall tone. With Wolf probably edging out the Anthrax tone in regards to lead tone.

I liked 'ol Hoffman back in the day. He did get great tones didnt he. His rhythm tone especially. I rememember wanting to get his tone on the "Balls To The Wall" album. To me it was the fattest, most pregnant with gain sorta sound ever at the time. To me it sounded sorta like a cross between early to mid 80's Scorpions tone, along with a shot of Randy Rhoads.

Not sure when he had it built, but Wolf took one of his late era JCM800 1959 heads and had the PT swapped out to utilize 2 100 OPT's and dropped in 4 more power tubes to create a true stereo amplifier. The amp looked pretty jacked though. The rear of the chassis had the output jacks removed and Speakon connectors installed. If memory serves me right, there were 4 connectors on the back of the chassis.

I also liked those late 70's and early 80's Gibson Flying V's that he and the other guitarist had. The costruction of the 70's V's were a little different, but they sound so good. The prices are ridiculous now.

Wolf's amps were modded from Dirk Baldringer back in the 80'

Dirk at that time was something like an archtype for the (at that time) young German modders like Reinhold Bogner, Bernd Stephan, Peter Diezel, Larry Grohmann  , aso.

Dirk is still in business and is doing a great work as ever:

A bad loading site and unfortunately only in German.

The fault almost always is sitting in front of the amp
