Underrated.

Those early Chicago albums are brilliant in so many different ways. Terry was awesome. Thanks for sharing.

I could have sworn I had Terry listed here with lots of You Tube links but it's gone...
I also have been heavily influenced by Terry Kath, his wild abandon lead playing would inspire Jimi, and I heard a lot of him in the unfortunately late Tommy Bolin too.
Terry was the man great singing and dynamite guitar playing,he has often been overlooked in the great guitarist lists, but when I had the first CTA album,Free Form Guitar was always cranked, and I looked forward to every album with him playing.I have the boxed LP set Live at Carnegie Hall, does anyone know if that ever made it to CD?

Yes, not only is it on CD, it's expanded with one extra disc of unreleased performances. :)
Yes Terry was one of my biggest first influences, when I would put the first album CTA on the turntable the pure energy and vibe of the whole band was unbelievable and i could see why Jimi dug Terry Kath.I prefer the Gibson SG tone to the humbucker Tele too,but his phrasing, runs and great wah work, made him a standout and made Chicago a true powerhouse band, big horns, ace drummer, great singer/bass player, and the great keyboardist and of course Terry's slammin vocals.
Terry played lead guitar, there was no one who could keep up with him..
Tragedy about his senseless death as well.He is still revered today,by us old timers for whom that was a cutting edge, kick ass,jet melodically beautiful band.

+1 for Terry

yeah,

that wild abandon, or letting go, and tapping into one's inner inspireation,
into unfamiliar territory, I believe, seperates the art from the performance.

I'm A Man, I loved that song with the wah back then. 8)
