nobody? i like the guys work. eclectic guitarist for sure, even though you can hear his style a mile away. i love "tumeni notes", he has a sense of humor clearly too. pretty good body of work with the dregs & all.

I always felt that his "Introduction" Album was one of those must haves for the serious guitar instrumental album collector.

Just like Jeff Beck's Wired or Satriani's Surfing with the Alien...etc.

"Introduction" rates up there as well, just not as well known to many.

I think that song "On The Pipe" is just freakin' awesome.

I can't say I've heard much of the more recent stuff from Steve M....but any of the Dixie Dregs stuff has a great vibe to it as well.

Good call mentioning him!

Love what he did with the Dregs, hate him in Purple.

Steve is another big influence for me. He used to teach at a music store in Ypsilanti, about 25 miles from my hometown...of course, I found out about that after he moved to Georgia....(I remember being sooo pissed that he left Michigan!)
Anyway, I have to agree with T.J. - "The Introduction" is a MUST HAVE. Also I loved "Stand up", another great effort that features Alan Holdsworth, and Albert Lee in guest appearances.
The thing I like about Steve, is that he plays very "stylistically", meaning I can always tell it's him playing, but also that he doesn't conform to just a rock guitar, aggressive style. His music always has a down to Earth sound that just seems "healthy"...for lack of a better term.
He's another one (like Jeff Beck) that seems like a friend that you know that lives down the road from you.
Fuck it.

I've just started working on that song. Surprisingly enough, there's not much tab info for it out there. Steve has it hand-notated on his site so between that, a few youtube videos, and a brief tab of the intro, I'm hoping I can figure it out. Maybe I can find a way to download some youtube vids and slow them down.

Kind of funny regarding the videos. I was watching a bunch of Jimmy Herring vids and came across him and this other guy doing "On the Pipe" at GIT back in the early 80s. I had to laugh though because I saw these very same videos way back in the 80s. A friend of mine in South FL had shown them to me because I was into Morse at the time. This is before anyone knew who Herring was. He just described him as "this guy who sounded exactly like Morse" playing along with this other guy who apparently my friend took lessons from as a teen living in LA. Funny to find out years later.

I went through a major EJ/Steve Morse phase towards the end of the 80s. Steve's a machine.

On of my faves. I've seen him many times in small clubs, either with his band (not the Dregs) or by himself. He starts playing and jaws hit the floor. You just can't believe your own eyes and ears. My wife loves going to see him too. The hall fills with sound -- way different but just as exciting as a rock show.

As a radio station giveaway, I won a small group lesson from him. Very very nice guy. I learned a thing or 2 from him. (I don't just suck, I really suck  ) Then got front row for the show (solo W/ band) Just fantastic!

High Tension Wires is another great recording that showcases Steve's ability to create sonic pictures. Agree with all the comments above.

If you like that Dixie Dregs-type stuff, I stumbled upon Hectic Wartermelon on another site...an eclectic sounding San Diego-area band. The lead guy is a former navy seal who apparently studied morse so much he totally internalized him. He just channels morse both stylistically and compositionally which is not an easy task (I'm sure I'm not giving him near enough credit - I have simple ears I guess).
