I really can't believe , with the amount of mature taste in music around here, no one has mentioned Brian Setzer!

but, I guess unless something jogs your memory , you may never think of this dude.

Today , while decorating the Xmas tree, out of an ornament box pops my CD of Brian Setzer Orchestra doing Xmas music.....Hell Yeah......what a Great Holiday CD..into the Bose it goes!

I saw him on some music special back in the 80's ( does anyone remember this ??) with about 23 of the best guitarists in the world, all playing on stage and taking turns soloing and stuff.

3 of those players were absolutely head and shoulders above the rest of the back.

1)Setzer
2)Gilmore
3)Schon

Got a chance to see him years ago when he first toured with the B.S. Orchestra.

What a great show and awesome guitarist, can kill it on banjo too!

I'll leave now and go back to the tree..coffee....and my Setzer CD!!!

but check this fun clip out..

Setzer kicks ass! I swear I posted a Setzer thread but I don't see it. He's from my old stomping grounds, Massapequa, Long Island, NY. I had my '78 Trans Am project painted at the same place he had his hot rod's done, Wantagh Auto Repair. "WAR" is the body shop on the cover of the first Cats LP. Brian used to go to the neighborhood parties with just his axe and amp and play all night long. He could cut Hendrix, Zep, Purple all the stuff of the time without breaking a sweat but when he launched into his rockabilly it was bettet than the orignal players!

We've seen his Christmas show the last 3 years running in LA. He writes out most of the charts himself. The guy knows the fretboard inside out.

Real cool, too. One day at the auto shop Kenny was painting (IIRC) a Duece roadster for Brian. He came in to check on it and all he wanted to talk about was cars. Of course I wanted a gig with him!

yeah. i think i remember a thread or three on here raving about mr setzer. maybe he was just mentioned in passing, but i swore he had a thread of his own.

he sure knows how to rock. recent footage i've seen shows he hasn't worked out that bot-bellies don't go with tight leather jeans, though.

been looking for a semi- or hollow-bodied guitar for a while, but nothing seems to set me on fire yet. had thought of one with a bigsby, but i can't get my head around the tuning issues. maybe i'd be best off just leaving the bigsby stuff to my heroes and just pluck trem-less. lol.

I really enjoy this tune, shows Setzer's talent on the bajo as well.

I love Setzer and Rockabilly in general. I have a Gretsch and nothing sounds quite like it. Finger pickin rules!

I seen Brian last year when he came to Detroit to perform his Christmas show. (What a cool cat!! I mean, who else goes out and does a Christmas concert tour??!!) I am getting tooled up to build my own version of a Gretsch 6120 next year. His 59 6120 is just too cool. While researching the instrument, I even read that Pete Townsend used his own 1959 Gretsch 6120 to record the guitar track on Won't Get Fooled Again. Until I read that interview, I would have sworn it to be a Gibson LP or SG.

nice, what an underated player. he seems like one those old school guys that has quite a few styles up his sleeve. he always seems to whip out a good riff or two!

Mike Chieffo reninds me of Brian a lot as well, with slightly less tattoos course.
Mike plays lots of styles very well and is a super nice guy, ditto Brian, plus as he is New Yawk through and through..fill!
Merry Christmas and a rocking New Year to Chief and family, he's got to be the coolest guy in :D 8) 8) SoCal!!

Geez, Dave. I just saw this. Man, thanks for the super kind comps. I can't touch Brian's playing (even if I did get my Trans Am painted at the same shop that built his early hot rods in Massapequa. And I did jam with him at a party once :D )

I just found this on youtube..this fukin guy knows the necj inside out.

It's all true Mike, you are a super cool guy, the kind of New Yorker that is credit to the state. You are too modest about your playing, hoping the New Year is great for you and your family :)
