Wow ! That is some great info. I thought that Ritchie STARTED his strat career with the 3 bolts. I need to get into this more.

That's Ritchies first Strat that he bought off a Eric Clapton roadie.

It had a Tele neck and according to Ritchie was very hard to play because the neck had problems which is why Eric Clapton offloaded it.

Sorry for the necropost but I've followed this thread when it was active and I wanted to add a sound test to the discussion.

I was sold on the theory that Machine Head was the AC30 and even modified mine to match Blackmore's. Got somewhat close but not really. Then I got a 2xKT88 Major build and I think I got a lot closer to his elusive tone. This test has some playing mistakes but I think it shows the character of the sound well. It has a Hornby Skewes treble booster clone in front and a cabinet with Scumback H75s. Recorded with an SM57.

That was awesome dude ! You sounded just like Ritchie ! So 2Xkt-88 is a 50 watt Marshall build (1987) ? The Majors were 200 watters right ? So you pulled two tubes on a Major or was it a 50 watter ?

Thank you so much, I'm glad you guys liked it.
The amp was built as an ultralinear 2xKT88 Major circuit, I think it must be something around 85w. I don't know if it was based off a 50w kit but it could easily be the case. I was going to do that myself but ended up giving the project to someone else.
I did a couple more "Machine Head" recordings (with video), will post a link soon.

Great, very good playing and I like this one too : http://soundcloud.com/max-102/machine-h ... kmore-lick" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I assume you're playing a Strat, but stock or scalloped one? What PU's?
I'm trying to achieve the same goal with a 2xKT88 Deliverance head, but the result isn't here yet, even with some modifications into it.

Thanks for the nice comments guys!
Yes, it's a CS Strat with CS '69 pickups, scalloped like the original. :)
The other recording you liked is from Roger Glover's remix of Machine Head, a sound bite just before "Pictures of Home" in Disc 2. I have it there as a "target" sound example. Love it.

This is another test I posted to YouTube, I hope you guys like it!

Awesome tone picking and vibrato beautiful guitar. I prefer the Blackmore scallops to the Grand Canyon Yngwie versions, I know as I had a 2004 YJM MKII Strat.
KIller, Hornsby Skews definitely ads that extra touch..
