Frankie Sullivan - Underated player - awesome tone!
Hey guys, I have been re-discovering old Survivor. I have to say that Frankie Sullivan is a monster player. His tone is killer on the early stuff.
Just listen to him from 1993 jammin:

Now this is some awesome stuff that frankly I have never heard before. I didn't know Survivor had such cool rock tunes like this:
As Soon As Love Finds Me

Caught In The Game
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IB3cTiPgLJE" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Take You On A Saturday
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMjRXSsEPHQ" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Nothing Can Shake Me - Listen to Dave Bickler sing here... wow! LOL Thats a rock voice my friends.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlr2pImuej0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Children of the Night
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZJPefNXX4E" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The One That Really Matters
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9LXsfOA_u4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Now on to the discussion.... what the hell is he using? LOL Sounds like a late 70s JMP? Possibly 2203 or 2204 with pedal in front? The first album sounds like a Plexi? Possibly a Super Lead?
Anyway, I just wanted to bring up Frankie Sullivan as a play and his tone. For some reason Survivor has caught my ears recently. And damn... Dave Bickler was a great singer!

Ha, ha, yeah,I still got my 'Eye Of The Tiger' 45. On the flip side of it is 'Take You On A Saturday'. I agree, his tones back then were real good. In the vid to 'Eye Of The Tiger', I believe he is playing a '75-'78 looking white Ibanez Destroyer. Maybe it was a Gibson ? I think his sound had a 2204/2203 type tone as well. I hear that BIG crunch of 6550's as well, though I may be wrong.

Man, this stuff has me jazzed up for some reason! LOL The first few albums with Dave Bickler on vox really kick butt. Very underrated band. Big Marshall tones through and through, and some killer riffs! It has that "in between" 70s/80s tones. Still has that vintage Marshall vibe, yet still boardering on 80s tones.Tone Slinger wrote:Ha, ha, yeah,I still got my 'Eye Of The Tiger' 45. On the flip side of it is 'Take You On A Saturday'. Yeah, I saw the explorer in the Children of the Night video. He used to play a Les Paul.

I always liked Frankie Sullivan, he was underated. Great vintage Fender and Gibson tones, plus vintage Marshall amplification what's not to like.
I like the riff and phrasing on "Caught In The Game" in particular.

He's a vintage aficionado, in the 80s he played a 1960 burst, and he also has a 59 burst, a 57 strat, several TV and 50's P90 equipped goldtop, etc
Outstanding tone
