Sadly but with great memories the headstone has been placed at Gary's grave.
Rest in peace my friend....

This is on the coast directly south of London

I thought Gary Moore would have been buried in Northern Ireland

Gary has no real ties to Northern Ireland having spent many years in the Brighton area and his immediate family all close by.
His dad still lives in Ireland, his mum in England they are divorced.
I am helping the author of Gary's forthcoming biography Harry Shapiro with info and he is letting me write the technical descriptions, equipment, amps and guitars.
I will be covering the early days until when Graham Lilley took over as his guitar tech in the early nineties.
Yes that version of Separate Ways is simply fantastic. That's a Hot Rod 50 Soldano he is using with his EV loaded Marshall cabs.
Here is the intro solo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aW9hCIiZ-gE
here is an HD version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1VN_XDXSW4

My favorite stuff of his is when he does this simple outline of the chords with connecting licks and then sets up the tune and then blazes a solo over it. Bminor to AMaj to GMaj is a good one for him. I thought I was a decent player but I don't think I could stand up there in a club and create such tone with such command and honesty.

my soldano 50 didn't sound that good ! It sounds like an SLO but I do see only two power tubes glowing so must be a Hot Rod 50 - unless two are pulled?

Too bad there is no up n coming players to replace guys like gary. No one even comes close and that includes superficial clones like corporate joe bonnamassa. He's got none of gary's intonation vibrato taste etc. There is no doubt we are entering a dark ages

I still think The above soldano tone tops this one but he sure is getting some good stuff out of a marshall here

awangotango it is definitely a Hot Rod 50 and Gary is running an Alesis Quadreverb for reverb on top of the head.
Yes Gary could take simple chord progressions such as Empty Rooms and expand them into complex thematic ideas all linked together to make absolute sense. As brilliant in his way as any John McLaughlin piece!

"EV loaded cabs" do we know what Elecrovoice speaker in particular that is?

What I find unique to gary was that he was at the top of his game late in life. Imo he was not a genius early on but developed into one. I wouldn't even say he was at that level during corrodors of power which was a pinnacle in it's own way, but by the mid 2000's he had developed all his potential, vibrato, note choice, tone, command, volume swells etc and the way he put it all together with such confidence and feel surely is a rare kind of genius and mastery as much as other greats McLaughlin, eddie, page, Hendrix etc. Not that gary was overlooked while alive but it seems that after he left us, it became more evident to more people what a unique and genius player he was.

So versatile!

You all are most welcome. The deep admiration I have always had for Gary has been rekindled with the upcoming biography whom the author has been so kind as to entertain my opinions and who has made me feel welcome.
The same for Darren Main, Gary's personal assistant and bodyguard since 1994.
I reached out to Darren after Gary's death and we both had an understanding together. He was one of Gary's closest friends and he shared memories of Gary with me and I can only imagine how he and Gary's circle of friends feel about this terrible tragedy.
I have been offered to write the technical section with my specialty being the seventies through the late eighties.
Of course Graham Lilley Gary's manager and guitar tech has the remaining years info he being the closest you can get to Gary handing him his guitars and spending so much time with him.
Harry Shapiro the biographer has been writing biographies for 30 years and has authored books on Jimi Hendrix "Electric Gypsy" and a book on Jack Bruce among them.
Harry has stated that his main motivation for the book is to encourage people to want to listen to Gary's music.
That's how I have always felt myself. I love to share my enthusiasm for Gary's music and playing.
Even though he was in an extremely poor state of health Gary's playing and singing on the last Ukraine leg of the 2010 tour was among his best.
I have favorite eras of Gary's music of course, the early eighties Gary Moore Band, the brilliant 1985 -1987 Run for Cover and Wild Frontier period.
The 1987 Stockholm show captured on video by the great NFL Films is one of the best stadium rock shows of all time in my opinion.
Ending with 1989's After The War Gary recharged his batteries and launched into his blues/rock period with Still Got The Blues and the even better After Hours albums.
Then in 1994 Gary teamed up with the Cream duo of Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker for the great BBM project which had so much promise but lack of critical acclaim and friction amongst the members ended that after a great album and live shows.
Gary carried on through the 2000's honing his roots style blues styles and seemed to enjoy just getting out and playing again.
Of course when he reunited with Neil Carter and once again struck out on a Celtic rock course I as well as many of his fans were overjoyed to hear that music again and the three new songs that he had written by then as well!
What an album that would have been, but we will never know sadly.
I have a theory that revisiting the style of music that he started with the late Phil Lynott caused him to relive much of the sadness surrounding the 1986 death of Phil.
Gary never sang or played the Wild Frontier songs or 1989's Blood of Emeralds so well as he did on that last tour in my opinion.
Adapting his fixed bridge Les Paul to many of the songs previously played on a Floyd Rose tremolo style guitar was nothing short of brilliant.
I hold out hope that some of the Ukraine material, which pro shot and sound board recorded material exists, will be eventually be released.
Hopefully when the biography comes out some of the previously only available on VHS releases will come out.
For example my VHS copy of Blues For Greeny I had to get a Japanese import copy when that came out as it wasn't released in the US, the same for the earlier releases such as Emerald Aisles and Wild Frontier.
These VHS releases deserve release from the the first gen masters. Sounding as great as they do on VHS stereo one can only imagine how great they will sound digitally enhanced!
Many thanks to all the Moore fans here and on other forums who keep the memories alive bring Gary's music to a whole next generation who will discover just how significant he was in the history of rock/blues/fusion music.
People's personal opinions of Gary and his personality shouldn't be combined with his musical side.
All artists have their own styles of expression and Gary was outspoken in that regard.
I tend to overlook this matter as in the end it doesn't have anything to do with the music.
Gary did make significant social commentary in his early eighties music such as Victims of the Future and Murder in the Skies.
These songs ring as true today unfortunately as they did back then.
Songs like Teenage Idol comment on the manufactured rock star industry and Gary had a love/hate relationship with the music business.
He had a huge following in the US as well as in Japan and Gary often said how much he appreciated playing in the US.

For me, Gary was the best at translating real human emotion into melody and riff.

He certainly was a talent that few have matched. I would put Paul Gilbert up there if I had to pick someone.
