Hey Fellers,
Been experimenting with my 45/100. Today I changed the tone stack to 33/500 and I must say, I really like it much better than the 56/250 that comes with the kit.
Anyone else try this with your builds? It sounds a little more jangly and it really tightens up the low end nicely.
Also, have any of you Fellers put a PPIMV in your builds? I'd be curious as to the results if you did. I'm looking to get a tiny bit more grit at lower volumes.
Overall, I think the tone stack was a huge improvement. I can't take credit for the idea . . . Greg Germino does that on his Monterey, he says to improve upper mid response which it sounds to me like it does.
It's pretty liberating to be able to do whatever you want to your own custom amp!

Re: Tone Stack
that mod isn't mal young friendly
I prefer the 250pf/56k for ac/dc and clapton.
Some jtm45s used 270pf, and I've seen one with 220pf. also the type of cap and resistor will make a hearable difference

Sure, but since this is my build, I'm gonna do it my way. I ain't Malcolm Young.Roe wrote:that mod isn't mal young friendly

I like the wonk it adds to chords as well.
So, back to my original question: Has anyone tried this and what did you think?
Thanks, Fellers!

Re: Tone Stack
I tried a switchable tonestack in a 50w. not a huge difference but very noticeable.

Re: Tone Stack
Thats the 'Dick' mod in the Hendrix amp
Jangly as far as that British midrange sound sure. I find the opposite as far as the low end. Not in my 45/100 but in my 68 with Lead/Bass switches. The stack combo switch definitely has the largest effect of all.jfhudak wrote:Anyone else try this with your builds? It sounds a little more jangly and it really tightens up the low end nicely.
