Will a combo 45/100 work?
I am in the process of building a 45/100 and I am seriously thinking about putting this chassis in a combo type cabinet with two Celestion golds. My question is will the 2/ 12 combo in a cabinet that is a little bigger than the average cabinet, sound big enough to bring the goods out of the mighty 45/100? On paper it might not seem that good but my intuition tells me that this could be my tone quest in a box. I love the sound of the golds and to be pushed to the brink by the 45/100 will have those golds close to cookin to the brink. And I also thought it would tighten it up a little if it was a semi closed back cab in a little bigger size. Please let me know your feelings, criticisms. Give me both barrels.

+1.. That was my first thought. And: Can an Alu chassis support those transformers in that position ?gutpile wrote:Consider your back as well!!! This would top out easily over 100 pounds!!!
This would be a very impractical beast.

+1.
Why not try a JTM45 with a solid state rectifier? It should make for a more manageable package, while still having much of the same character.

Do whatever you want. But I'd avoid such a project myself for a few reasonstimsmcm wrote:I am in the process of building a 45/100 and I am seriously thinking about putting this chassis in a combo type cabinet with two Celestion golds. 1.) I don't believe in combos - speakers are in too close a proximity to tubes, causing rattle, noise, etc.
2.) Moving around a heavy combo is a bigger pain than moving two lighter boxes IMO. One box is a non-plus.
3.) I firmly believe that my 45/100 circuit deserves nothing less than a 4x12. Preferably two.
4.) Celestion Golds @ 50w x 2 + 45/100 peaking over 100W = a chance of dead speakers

I believe the golds will handle it for a while. could last months or years. depends on a lot of factors

It seems to me the golds in that application would be a lot like the blues in a vox ac30. The vox puts out a little more than 30 watts and the vox blues were 15 watters and They were a fantastic combination when cranked.

play through different cabs etc.
tubes enveloped in all that sound pressure within a 100watt combo...............
2x65watt Scumnicos.
