Great collection so far, the 32/32 RS is to die for! Did you consider block end chassis? This will be my next build as well, so your journal will be closely watched. :D

thanks ! yes, the 32+32 uf would be nice ( but it's an old cap .. ) , for a 7026 dickinson build it would be nice, especialy since i scored some 470 ohms RS 5w wirewound resistors too.

i'll have to make some decisions between the caps. and i'd like to draw a larry grounding layout based on the one of billy batz, for my understanding.

No, it'll be some simple aluminium chassis but ... made after one that supposedly belonged to jimi, and i can believe it, it's the same as the 7026, same "mistakes" , one of the power tubes is placed a bit further from the others. things like that.

anyway, i'll build two ^^

I'm curious about the mesh holders as I never come across those. Where did you get yours?

Ask to Sparky, a member here. He may still have some at a decent price, + several other parts for you.

Re: JTM 45/100 - Build story

Post by Xplorer » Sat Jul 07, 2012 8:44 am

Am i missing something, for the particular first JTM45/100 build ?
i'm wondering if i'll use some of these old caps, how to reform them, if it's worth it ..

don't know if i'll go with the 16uf RS or a 33uf Rifa or 32uf Erie, or RS 32+32, for the big cap in the middle of the board ( don't remember the name and its role ) .

same for the 10uf bias caps : sprague atom or rifa ... the Nos erie might go into the superlead build as it's the same on the originals.

for the V1 cathode cap i might go with the sprague 250uf6v : same value as on the original, and esthaeticaly it looks close to the original wima used there.

for the diodes, well .. i don't know, between the germanium shiny BY114 ( i'd have to find some specs on these , cause it's a different brand, not the original mullard BY114 or BY100, though it looks the same )

the carbon comps drifted quite a lot. From what i measured, do you think i should look for another selection of Carbon comps ?

I've been told to use the welwyn 1k 3watts instead of the 5watts, i think i'll go with it.

the snubber cap would be this old red hunts 0,056uf 1000vdc, almost the same model used on the originals. i suppose it's ok with this one ?

i think i'll buy some electrical safety gloves for the testing, i don't feel comfortable to do it again with such voltages involved, without protections.

one amp i'm interested in featured some 470k mixer resistors instead of some 270k, and it didn't have the 560pf bright cap.
it features i think a 220pf tone stack treble cap, and a 56k tone stack resistor. the big cap in the middle is probably a 32uf.

any experiences feedbacks and comments appreciated :D
Thanks !
