standby switch wiring 45/100

Post by dan_tramble » Wed Mar 15, 2017 3:34 pm

Hello all

Finally getting around to assembling my 45/100 My question is this

I got 1 SPST power switch from Robert (valvestorm) he supplied a DPST switch for the "standby"

My question is in the wiring of the standby switch Layouts refer to one set of poles on the DPST switch going to the rectifier circuit and the HT tap off the transformer going to the other side of the rectifier (amp archives layout) I am building the JTM 45/100 (not the Hendrix amp)

In building superleads (1959's) the HT goes to the bottom row of ploes on the DPST and the two top poles feed to the rectifier

Can anyone explain the proper way to wire it up

From what I gather, the amp archives layout uses then (2) SPST carling switches?

Thanks in advance and sorry for the dumb question, this is my first JTM 45/100 I have done several JTM 45/50 amps and 1987,1959 and 2203 amps plus the 18 watt and I am a little dumbfounded on the standby switch wiring

Thanks In Advance
MetroAmp addict!
JTM 50/45,1987's & 1986
1959 and 2203/2204 Amps
1974 amp

Can't stop building, very addictive!

Original 45/100's used a SP switch that was after the diodes. Not ideal. The diodes were always charged when the power is on and the switch had to manage the full B+ and current through one set of contacts.
The fuse for the HT was between the secondary center tap and ground. Also not ideal.

Best to switch the secondaries before the diodes with DPST and fuse right after diodes. Your call though, no tonal sacrifice to make it better.

George,

Do you have a layout for this wiring? the PDF of the 45/100 shows it more like the original 45/100. Let me know.
