Anybody know what kind of amp Jimi used for the BBC sessions?

Depends on the session... I'm counting the seconds until Roe chimes in here, but what I'm hearing is a JTM45/100 for the majority of the sessions, but probably an EL34-based one for the very last session (December 15, 1967). I'm a little torn about the 67/10/06 Top Gear session...Little Miss Lover sounds like EL34s, so probably a black flag amp, but I think Drivin' South and Catfish Blues sounds like a JTM45/100 with KT66s.

Compare the tone of Catfish Blues on the BBC album with that on the Blues album. The latter sounds like an EL34 amp (black flag), but I think the former has a slightly different sound, so I'm guessing KT66s.

I've built clones of both of these amps, and have been obsessing with these tones for a long time, so I'm making educated guesses here...with emphasis on guesses.

Didn't see that you embedded video of Jimi @ Lulu, which was much later (January '69). Based on the sound and the date, I'm guessing a regular 12-series JMP.

Yeah I like the Lulu session, but I also like the show where he plays "Crawl Out Your Window", not sure what time period that is or which show that was.

Just checked out the different catfish blueses, yeah the bbc one sounds more "chimey" to me and the Blues one sounds way more warm! Did jimi use a black flag? Was exactly is a black flag amp?

I think Shakti is RIGHT ON with all his answers. Also of note is that I think Hendrix was still using the AXIS fuzz (brighter and more compressed) on the earlier mentioned show (with the more chimey 'Cat Fish Blues' and 'Drivin' South').

agree with shakti :toast: although I'm a little uncertain about some of the songs from the fall of 67. notice that the pic inside the cd shows a white back panel, clearly deplaying a super 100 amplifier
