Jimi Hendrix' Gear and Mods at West Coast Organ and Amp

His guitar slung across his back, his dusty boots is his cadillac.

Maybe the foundation should just get that one from you Bill! It seems to be exactly what they are looking for in a close replica. Really good looking job too I might add.

I'd be honoured !
Thanks for the kind words.

Unfortunately I did not have the time to make any clip or video. Guess I'll have to build another one !

It may be true. The Hendrix Foundation Of America believes it may have found some original West Coast Marshalls. They have also put me in contact with Hiwatt amps, and I have talked to the CEO about the possibility of building a special "Jimi 69" super lead, with the West Coast mods built in.

All very speculative, but at least folks are thinking about it. We shall see.
perhaps you could ask Mars***l?

Roe,
Yes, the most logical question, the first one I asked when I was approached. I was told that Marshall has some arrangement with Janie, and that would make it difficult. But then again, who knows?

Hi everyone, I follow this precious and exciting forum that I read patiently with so much interest ...
But regarding the use of 6550 tubes in the second super lead, starting from the right side, I think they are EL 34 AND NOT 6550,
at least from the image that I was able to take from this frame.

sorry!
I cannot attach the image even though it has been uploaded as an attachment!
I ask the administrator the image uploaded in the attachment is the following: IMG_8515-.jpg
we can load it in this post?

Just talked to some one that put a tele neck on a strat and the pocket did not need modifiying as claimed here.

That's cool about the Tele neck, can you show us some pics?
When Neal Moser put the Tele neck on Jimi's guitar he had to machine the neck to fit in the pocket. Maybe there is a better way, I'm sure everyone would love to hear about it.

Just learned from the Hendrix Foundation that Michael Laing has decided not to do the Jimi Hologram at Woodstock; he wants to keep it organic, just like 50 years ago. I wish them luck on that account, they won't have Jimi, and I doubt everyone in attendance will be stoned on LSD. But who knows?

Also, the Foundation has asked me to recreate the mods I did on Jimi's 6420 Supro amp. I just dug up my old notebook to find out what I did. They are thinking a Jimi mod on a small scale than most musicians could afford. Are they on the right track?

Unfortunately this site no longer allows images to be uploaded. You have to use a third party image hosting site (i.e. photobucket) to put photos in your posts.

Well a couple days ago we found out that Woodstock was cancelled, then this afternoon, I heard from the Hendrix Foundation that it is not cancelled, apparently the promoters have to find new investors. Some big changes going on no doubt.

And if you see a photo where Jimi's amps appear to have EL34s in them, that would be a real possibility. I think I have bored you enough with the stories of tube replacements in his amps, but there could be EL34s, 6CA7s, 6550s, KT77s, or maybe even some weird types that I might have been trying out. You all know I tried to get all the amps switched over to beam power tubes for the powerful distortion characteristics, and the 6550 was the most reliable of these for Jimi's amps.

Hi all!
I'm new to the forum and have a lot of catching up to do, especially with this thread!!!!
Besides all of the jems of wisdom and experience (tee hee) I've been gleaning, I found out I've been sitting on a tube head that has a nice place in history. I've owned a Guild Thunderbass for about 30 years. I've only just started getting round to restoring it to working condition. I tried finding info on this amp for years and only recently found the schematic and only yesterday discovered Jimi used one for his front end!!! Why is this not common knowledge? Or have I been that far out of the loop?
Anyway, thank you Dave! This has been truly inspiring!
