Re: BOG fuzz question
The transformer is unlabled. It looks like the 42tm022, but it has two leads on one side and 4 on the other. I found it at a local store called O.E.M.

That sounds awesome! Great work... what schematic did you use?CrazyNinja8730 wrote:Here it is:

I have a very special idea for the enclosure when I get the time.
BTW: Sorry for the poor sound quality, botched Hendrix, etc. etc. I'm not gearmanndude.
I will try to make a better video sometime, as this is my first real guitar video. However, if you can track down the transformer, I would recommend building this anyway.

Re: BOG fuzz question
No, that one did not yet have the octave switch. The schematic came from FuzzCentral, I use them for all fuzzes, as well as some other things.
Thank you for the compliment!

Re: BOG fuzz question
You need a good Uni Vibe clone to get the gohsts in the wind I have the Mojo VibeXplorer wrote:nice work. yeah, later , if you can test it with your jtm45/100, on the octave off to hear the fuzz alone it'd be great. what transformer is it ? where did you find it ? makes me wanna build the same.
yladrd, please, some clips too ! ; )
in the end ( from 8: 30, hearing ghosts in the wind or something, incredible atmosphear ) of this youtube clip, there's a part of what i'm after, a lot... ( this clip isn't complete )
this sustain, feedback. yeah, i might buy this dunlop blue fuzz and tweak it, thanks !

Re: BOG fuzz question
yes, thanks, but i'm more enclined to understand that it's all about a feedback that is due a lot to the fuzz he uses, and the vibe is blended into this but it's just feedback, but not a usual feedback. i use a megavibe and it's great too. the gypsy fuzz could be great for this purpose, it produces feedbacks in this way even if you don't play the guitar, according to the clips.

Re: BOG fuzz question
I've heard he had both a FF and a axis in the chain, although I think he only used one at a timeTone seaker wrote:so are you saying he used two fuzzs together?yngwie308 wrote:I have recently learned that post Woodstock but definitely on BOG Jimi used the RM Axis Fuzz and the Fuzz Face if that is true?

Re: BOG fuzz question
The red fuzzface with the white knobs was a hybrid (Si in the first stage and Ge in the second) that Mayer had tweaked for Jimi which later became the basis for the Axis pedal. He only had that FF with the wah,Octavia, and Univibe in the chain as has been proven by all the pictures of that show. I've modded my own vintage FF with the same hybrid arrangement and it definitely gets the BOG sound.Xplorer wrote:i didn't see two fuzz in the chain of the BOG show. Re: BOG fuzz question
hi swankmotee,
that's what i heard too, but you seem to have more details about that fuzz. please, may i ask you what transistors ( and what's their indivicual gain ) you used in the first stage ( silicon ) , and in the second stage ( germanium ) ? is it a dallas arbiter base for the circuit and other values ( resistors, caps ) ? or is it more complex ? it'd be interesting to build your modded fuzz and see.
thanks.

Re: BOG fuzz question
It's a vintage FF with a lower gain (below 200) BC108c in the 1st stage and a Newmarket (non-marked with any numeral) Ge can in the second stage that is around 140 to 150 on the gain. I did a lot of hand picking to get the best trannies in their respective spots but once I hit it the thing just had all the character and feedback like the vintage Hendrix tones. The important thing to remember is that the 1st stage does no distorting so having the low noise Si can there makes a big difference in the amount of noise the thing passes on to the distorting 2nd stage. It also tends to have better clarity string to string and the neck and middle pups sound more bell like with less mud at max fuzz settings. It just sounds better overall and really nails that BOG/Woodstock tone that the Mayer face had. I'll pass along some audio/video I did down at the Dallas guitar show very soon that will show how it sounds through a full tilt Marshall 100 watt.Xplorer wrote:hi swankmotee,
