Re: Hendrix fuzz.
We cannot tell the guitar setup hendrix used(at least i cannot)
But what i can advise is.. get the fender spec for your guitar and pickup.
A little search on google will give you that.

Re: Hendrix fuzz.
The height of strings (action) will depend upon your guitar and how it is set up. If you have a vintage neck (7.5" radius vs 9.5" radius), how you have your trem set up, etc.
If you have the action too low, as you say, you will get rattle and buzzing particularly if down tuned and conversely if too high you will shred your fingers and it will be hard to play. For big bends with vibrato needing good control I find too low an action is unhelpful.
I also confess that my Strat ('62 RI with 7.5" rosewood neck, vintage trem and 10-46s) was set up 'by the book' by my luthier (Martyn Booth) for fully floating (up and down) trem and standard action (0.3mm neck relief and 2-1.6mm string height). It plays beautifully, very stable tuning for a vintage style trem, all I have to do is keep it clean and change the strings (one at a time to avoid losing his settings ).
No idea how Jimi set his up, but you have to be able to play like him in so many ways before you have to worry about little details

Re: Hendrix fuzz.
My strat has the 6 screw tremolo, its the most stable one i have ever used(more than a floyd rose to me).neikeel wrote:It plays beautifully, very stable tuning for a vintage style trem.

Dive bomb or anything, and as soon as you leave it free, it go back perfectly in tune, everytime since i got this guitar.
I like to use some light machine oil on the string top and bottom.
Just make sure your guitar is setup correctly, and practice alot.
Its gonna take some time before you can reach this level.. you have to get "the feel"
Dont spend too much time trying to tune or tweak to get there.
Anyway(am using yngwie malmsteen strat) and here is my setup
My pickup to string distance is
neck pickup 8/64-6/64
middle pickup 8/64-6/64
bridge pickup 6/64-5/64
Action(at 17th string)
for 7.25 radius 5/64-4/64
9.5 radius 4/64-4/64
trem 1/8" up in the back. (and if its the 6 screw tremolo, make the first and last screw head just touching the tremolo when its held parallel to the guitar body. and the 4 other middle one about 1/16 slack again with tremolo parallel ot guitar body.
For trussRod, press first and last fret check at 8th
for a 7.25 radius neck = 0.012"
for 9.5 radius neck = 0.010"

Re: Hendrix fuzz.
What "space echo" is he using there ? A rackmount unit on top of those heads? There's a studio quality about it I've heard with Jimi & Uli. I wouldn't mind this toy for my Jimi rig. Sounds like it could replace the Roland RE-201 I have.
I've also tried to blend the depth & speed of a flanger with the slapback rate of an echo. Then trying to get them to sync up
on repeats to get an artificial effect.
-Sorry did not mean to go off topic. Just sounded good.
edit: oops. I was thinking his KR Mega vibe not fuzz . I did not know.
