Re: Jimi Hendrix' Gear and Mods at West Coast Organ and Amp
Stinkway, Thanks for joining. It's great to have some more input.
We had quite a serious discussion about whether or not Jimi used any other cabs or amps as monitors, especially guitar monitors, and the consensus was pretty sharply divided.
But I do know from one picture I saw that Jimi was using the Guild Quantum amp on stage during a rehearsal, most likely being used as a monitor.
The idea that he would use another amp and speaker as a monitor for his own guitar does not seem far fetched to me, it fits with everything I knew about him at the time. And if that monitor was used for the purpose of getting more feedback for his guitar because his back-line was remotely located then it would seem there might be another angle to his sound on some gigs.
It would also fit with the mods done on the Guild Quantum amp, because he could just take his Marshall output and run it directly into the Guild power amp section. You can see the mods and extra jacks for doing just that on the photos of the Guild amp Xplorer posted for me. The Guild amp came with a master volume built in, so anything could be plugged in there without hurting the amp.
And of course the Guild bass bottoms were actually pretty good, and preferred in some gigs. I'd love to see some more pics of performances where they were used.

I don't see how the consensus is divided over if he used the Guild cabs as monitors. They are clearly being used as monitors, save for Cox using them as his bass rig for BOG. His Marshall stacks are there. The Guilds are monitors. No Guild combo. No line-out of some Guild amp. The clip wasn't Jimi either. Just saying.

Re: Jimi Hendrix' Gear and Mods at West Coast Organ and Amp
Stinkway thanks for the pics. In that last one where the bottom is tilted back right next to him, what's that? Is it just the light that makes it look grey?
So if the Guild cabs were monitors, what do you suppose he was monitoring? His guitar, the bass, ???
And the clip wasn't Jimi? What clip were you referring to?
And Tone,
The Guild Quantum amp has the in-out mods Jimi asked for: the ability to use it just as a power amp, skipping the preamp, or using just the preamp and skipping the power amp. You can see both wires connecting to the master volume control on the top of the chassis. The dymo labels on the back of the chassis indicate which jack to use.
I know in the very early days he played through the amp, he told me that, but there is scant evidence to show exactly how he used it regarding sending its signal somewhere else, or re-amping another amp.
I'd love to see some photographic evidence of that.

so you think the 2X15 sunn cab loaded with jbl D130f speakers under fillmore east's balcony of which you can see the upper aluminium dust cap is there for monitoring purposes , to put a 6pack of beers on ? where is the amp feeding this "monitor" ?
Why the mic stand in front of jimi's stack has two mics on it ?
reamping man .....sound spread
Define your conception of the word "clearly" ... Shouting something with authority is not proof of any kind ....
let the controversy begin...

They were to hear Noel's bass, as I've seen Sunn and Wem (Europe) used the same way.frenchie wrote:stinkway wrote:I don't see how the consensus is divided over if he used the Guild cabs as monitors. Billy used the Guild cabs for BOG, so that big Sunn cab is to monitor Billy's bass. The speaker on the stool, to monitor the vocals. Not rocket science. No re-amping

Looks like a Guild and Sunn (tilted) cab on Jimi's side. To hear the bass.

Re: Jimi Hendrix' Gear and Mods at West Coast Organ and Amp
How you figure I'm trolling? I'm posting numerous photos of how Guild, Sunn were used to monitor the bass on Jimi's side of the stage. The photos speak for themselves. That audience pic shows nothing, IMO and not clear what show it's from.frenchie wrote:stop diverting everything i say , that's troll tactics , i'm talking about a cab in the audience ;

You're delusional. You believe in fantasy and fairy tales. Please ignore my posts cause to me, and others, you make no sense.
