Re: Jimi taking a lesson and notes?
you can't watch this video any more. apparently the "experience hendrix" company made a fuss. im so sick with this garbage.
for anyone that didnt like this video when it was available - i would love to see how well you would do playing guitar in front of hendrix, while he was recording you.

Buddy Guy was a influence on Hendrix and if you cant see that or hear it in Hendrix's lead style bends I feel bad for you . As you are missing out. Like Hendrix never bent out of key or sang out of key. I can tell by hearing a couple notes if it is Buddy Guy playing. Cant say Hendrix did not cop some of Guys licks like many other great players.
It is kind of interesting as certain bends Buddy does is imo taking from Muddy Waters slide style . Then Hendrix copped a bit from each of those other great wise ones. Buddy Guy is a awesome and sadly one of dying generations of the real thing. It is a shame that many of the old blues great are dead or dropping like flies. It will be bad sad when the real deal bluesmen are gone. No doubt there will never be a generation(s)like them again .

I can't say that I agree with thinking that 'blues' type playing is something that has ANYTHING to do with age or generation. It is musical note's that are played.
I think,if anything, that maybe people latch on to deficiencies that certain player's have (for example, lack of alternate picking strokes) and say that it is somehow better.
As a style, blues is WAY overdone, with every little turn around used by almost every player. That doesn't mean that great stuff can still be done using it's feel and dynamic.

I wonder what happened to the tape reels of that night Jimi was using to record this...gotta be worth something.Tone Slinger wrote:I can't say that I agree with thinking that 'blues' type playing is something that has ANYTHING to do with age or generation. It is musical note's that are played.

I can agree with you on most of that. Imo after playing with older cats from the older blues generation their was just a lot to learned from them. I am not a blues purest but it is true that those guys where the originators and play and approach it a bit differnt . I just say it out of respect from all I have learned over the years from them .Tone Slinger wrote:I can't say that I agree with thinking that 'blues' type playing is something that has ANYTHING to do with age or generation.
